Can anyone recommend a brand/make/model of pipe and stud detector that I can pick up from B&Q or Homebase?

I have metal studs but the capability to detect wooden studs could come in handy for the joists.

I bought one of these.

and it really does the business.

It is as stated a metal detector and will find wooden studs by picking up on the screws or nails used to fix the plasterboard in place. It can be used to sweep by offering the blue sensor horizontal to the wall and for pinpoint accuracy you can turn it so the round end of the sensor, about the size of a 1p piece, is used, you can find nails and screws with amazing accuracy.

About £50 but you get what you pay for.

I got mine from these guys.
