    base for lean to shed

You could use any concrete post, railway sleeper, treated fence post (they will rot, but not for at least 10 years). I would honestly go for the concrete posts -- they will provide a very strong, permanent base for the shed which will be stable and secure and importantly, free from rot! The PVC...

    AC Delco Mechanical Fuel Pump

Over the years I have attained a few of these (I have four of them) all in different states, to keep as spares. I can't simply replace with one, but there are useful things like the body, glass bowl, etc. As I have a service kit I'd like to maintain it. I'd rather keep it original (it's a...

    AC Delco Mechanical Fuel Pump

I should have said, I have a rebuild kit which includes all the gaskets, rubbers, etc.! This kit does include two new valves which I know do fit this pump (some are 0.014" too small in diameter and there are plenty of them still out there. I've seen a new pump at £90 and I'll admit it's...

    AC Delco Mechanical Fuel Pump

I am suffering from fuel drain back to the tank on an older car which uses a mechanical fuel pump, it's the glass bowl type one as seen in the attached image. Fuel is also leaking into the oil through the diaphragm, so the whole thing needs refurbing. The car is used weekly and each Friday the...

    What do you collect?

Is this a new thing, or is the FB algorithm doing its thing? I had a notification that 8 of my friends were in this group? I clicked on it and found myself reading the comments for 10 minutes, promptly joining it after...!

    HS2: The most unsurprising news.

From a selfish perspective, I'm so glad this section has been scrapped. They were going to put a viaduct through the town next door to us as 70 feet in the air. This would have ripped right through the town and cut it in half, all for a small saving on time. We are served by the existing...

More fibre, more pavement dug up

You would hate it here. For the past four months, we have had to endure the repair of an historic bridge with 24/7 two-way controlled lights, Cadent gas works connecting some new properties up, two separate weeks of Severn Trent closing the carriageway to repair leaks, three successive weekends...

Schools not to hide transgender claims from parents.

It is interesting, I consciously note the changing use of words. I've noted: - Homicide in place of murder (possibly because of the vast array of crime scene murder investigation shows from the US) - Elevator instead of lift (again, more US influence) - "Can I get a..." instead of "Please may I...

Schools not to hide transgender claims from parents.

That is very well put and exactly how I feel. It's easy to be interpreted totally the wrong way if you are against the tirade of the LBGQBT+, when really I am just not supporting of the confusing and damaging impression the movements leaves in the minds of the young.

Schools not to hide transgender claims from parents.

Hoping the whole thing is a fad and will disappear when either the people supporting it find something more useful to focus on, or when the next generations coming through find it all too complicated and return to established biology. Having a child not far from school age has made me very...

Is it okay drying clothes in small space with window open?

Yes air, but specifically the water within it! Just looked this up and confusingly, vendors seem to measure extraction rates of air in litres per hour (litres typically being used to measure liquid) whereas air should be measured in metres cubed.

Is it okay drying clothes in small space with window open?

I can't remember the specs, but I bought it from the aptly-named Extractor Fan World on the advice of somebody on this forum in 2017. It's an in-line fan with the vent centered in the middle of the room, which extracts a fairly high volume of water per minute (can't remember how it's measured...

    Which trellis?

I grew a pyracantha (sp?) or May blossom. Didn't use a trellis, just screwed and plugged the mortar (with a washer at the screwhead) and then tied wire around the plant to the screws. Far cheaper! If you're growing something a little more delicate like clematis or honeysuckle, that will need a...

Is it okay drying clothes in small space with window open?

Oh okay, I only worded it as I did because the frost thermostat was listed as a separate optional upgrade.

Is it okay drying clothes in small space with window open?

No it has an "integral frost protection" system which kicks in below 5 degrees according to page 9 of the manual. This is separate to a frost thermostat. https://mediacdn.mainheating.co.uk/-/media/websites/mainheating/files/discontinued/5119467-08_main_combi_eco_range_user_guide.pdf

    "Equal" pay rant!

She's worth what somebody is willing to pay. If she asks for a rate and people pay it, she's worth it. I do agree that pay should reflect time, experience, knowledge, skill, etc., but "worth" is a concept entirely in the mind.

Is it okay drying clothes in small space with window open?

My boiler is in what was the coal house (a cupboard under the stairs, accessed by a door on the driveway). No insulation, solid bricks walls and a wooden door with a gap underneath it. Coldest recorded temp we had was something like -7 and all was fine. It generates heat when on and when not...

    base for lean to shed

I'll post some pics up later of the base we laid for a larger shed, 11' posts all resting on slabs. That was done 5 years ago and all nice and sound still. There is a LOT of weigh in that shed.

    base for lean to shed

If you have a concrete base which is flat, then you can just lay the posts on there. I've attached a picture showing how they should be laid (if you go for this type of post). As the 'faces' of posts are often beveled/rounded, they wouldn't sit right on the ground, but if you lay them as in...
