Mate ive 19 years experience in roof slating and i can assure you when am doing historic slate work here in Scotland when using ballachulish slate i cant use any slate under 150mm if i do i have to take them out.In times gone by when we was doing random slate we could use inbands and then on...

so in other words you dont put in half cuts you get slate and half if your cuts are going below 150mm wide at abutments etc or generally anything you use a slate and a half

Dosent matter what size the slates are the minimum width of slate clerk of works etc want you to use is 150mm wide they dont want people using inbands, Bachelor slates any more its bad practice ive seen may skipping hundreds of slate because of this on historic work or large sites 150mm is the rule.

Slate min is 150mm you don't get the correct sidelap if you use a piece of slate narrower

overhang the slate 50mm on the verge start slating from the straight side first and use slate and a half on the verges

the course that lands on the join you can dummy hook but nail those slates

Heres some pictures of us staging out a roof with scottish style brackets so you get the idea

Those ones you put in with two 4 inch nails and there safe as houses the ones in Scotland are completely different our have like a large spike on them thats hit into the rafter

M8 get a lead burner to come look at it before you go start chopping things down not a roofer

And id probs do all the flat roof part in lead and keep the tiles further down the roof to avoid height issues

have the windows taken out , form a tile batten on the inside of the window where the window stops on the inside form your lead up over that and it will have to be wielded in all the corners put your windows back in hay presto sorted
