    Fixing a Sagging Wall Unit

I've received a lot of great advice from this forum in the past and I'd like to start giving back by sharing some of my own tips and successes. This one is actually inspired by some old advice I found after digging through this forum but as I was able to take photographs along the way, I hope...

    Shower Walls in Bathroom

Okay, time for a brief update on this as I'm now almost certainly going for tiles. Having removed some more tiles last night, I've realised that the left-hand wall (plasterboard) is not even half as damp as the other. There's only a small amount at the very bottom edge - how should I...

Ah, thanks! I wondered what I was doing wrong and was partway through creating an album here when your reply came through. :-)

    Shower Walls in Bathroom

Hi all, I hope I'm posting this in the right forum as I'd very much be grateful for your advice. In my bathroom, I've observed this damp growing to the right of my shower's cubicle. I noticed a while back that the grouting, particularly around the lowest tiles, was dark, cracked...

Condensation on top of Fridge (External)

Yes, that does look quite similar, although the grilles a different shape (more of a cross than parallel lines). I do hang my washing in the same room about twice a week after running it in the drier. But I only notice the water on top of the fridge after I've been boiling water.

Condensation on top of Fridge (External)

I can only see the name 'Steeple' on the fan itself, which leads outside through a vent in the external wall. I'm not sure if I understand correctly but there is also a plain vent directly below it at ground level, in the nook where a washing machine can go.

Condensation on top of Fridge (External)

Thanks, John, I'll give it a try. It's just a simple wall-mounted fan; probably about 6in across the square plate. I will also put a tray on top. I'm confident there are no leaks from the ceiling but I imagine water could be settling on the ceiling. I'd say the top of the fridge is the...

Condensation on top of Fridge (External)

Yes, the extractor does work it just doesn't seem to be in the best position and I cannot move the cooker any closer to it.

Condensation on top of Fridge (External)

Hi all, I wasn't sure of where to post this one so I hope you don't mind it appearing in this forum. In my flat (rented), I have a problem where after boiling something on the hob, as that warm air later cools, it settles on top of my fridge, where I often happen to leave my oven gloves...

    Repairing Plaster and Damp

Hi John and thank you for your reply. It's a large living room with a kitchen area on an adjacent wall. So, with the hob, hot water and washing machine (no dishwasher), it's possible there is going to be condensation, even with the extractor fan running. There are no windows along this...

    Repairing Plaster and Damp

Hi all, I recently decided to start painting my living room after growing tired of the landlord's magnolia! Two of the walls were completed last weekend and I left another intentionally because I knew there was some kind of issue with the plaster falling off. This evening, I looked in to...

    Toilet Cistern Hissing

Hi and apologies for dragging this one up again. But after today receiving my first water bill in this property (£200 for 4 months of living on my own!!), it's clear that I need to hurry up and do something about this. I did attempt the superglue fix as suggested by inspiredvision but...

    Toilet Cistern Hissing

Hi and many thanks to you all for your replies. I bought a couple of new diaphragm washers (they came in a pack of 2) last night but I've only just gotten around to looking at this, where I've noticed now that there's a slight crack in the screw thread 'housing', which basically means that...

    Toilet Cistern Hissing

Hi all, I noticed a while ago that my toilet is almost constantly hissing and, as I'd much expected, the system is constantly draining and refilling at a very low rate. I'll include some photos: (Yes, there was a small milk bottle in there!) If I lift the ball cock manually, it...

Has anyone replaced the brushes in an Elektra Beckum PK200?

Hi Dave, Thank you for the reassurance. I'm beginning to think I was perhaps expecting a little too much from an 1,800w saw with a 1,000w output. The blade isn't the original. It's actually a 40t Trend blade. It feels sharp (I managed to cut myself on it!) but it certainly...

Has anyone replaced the brushes in an Elektra Beckum PK200?

Hi Dave and thanks for your reply (I had a feeling it might be you! ;-)) It's been running much better today. I'm still not sure whether it's up to full speed or, even, what full speed is on this machine but, it now starts and runs after pressing the green button. If you wouldn't mind...

Has anyone replaced the brushes in an Elektra Beckum PK200?

Hi there, Apologies for dragging this old thread up from three-years ago but, if possible, I'd like to davegl if he's got any further with this? I couldn't see an option to PM him (perhaps that's because I've just signed up?). I've just bought one of these says second-hand (£52! 8))...
