Boiler fused spur and power cut

Why ? Surely you just detach the flex from the FCU and put a plug on it, and replace the FCU with a single socket ? I'm struggling to understand a situation where that isn't possible. If there's something specific to your property, telling us about that might allow for practical suggestions.

    You What?

And that was a time when there wasn't competition from carriers with no USO (universal service obligation) - meaning they could cherry pick the bits they could make a profit on and leave the PO & RM to handle the non-profitable stuff. And it was a time before email crashed the number of letters...

Boiler fused spur and power cut

Until some gas fitter comes along and insists it has to be an FCU as the MIs require it. Yes, I've had that "discussion" when I insisted the fitter put the socket back that he'd just replaced with an FCU.

Land purchase, buyer and seller using the same solicitor

I've come across the issue twice - when my late mother downsized, and now when we are selling her bungalow. In both cases, the two sides have chosen the same solicitor. The solution has been to assign staff at different offices to the two parties - and to direct that all the files be clearly...

Indeed, I'm also in the dark on that. I can only assume a regular here who takes multiple breaks in one of His Majesty's hotels.

Blanki g cooker isolation under sink to pass EICR

Yes, some good examples there of "not doing any basic sanity checking". Unless it's somewhere I've been before, I zoom out on the sat-nav and look at where it's taking me. Is the destination even in the right direction ? Such a basic check would have stopped the young lady being taken to...

Blanki g cooker isolation under sink to pass EICR

A colleague years ago said it should shout "I said turn left you idiot" A while ago, my wife said "you should be eating more of <list of stuff>". As it happens, I'd only just looked at the page it was a summary of and replied "actually, that's a list of thing NOT to eat". That was in relation...

    Aico alarm wiring instructions

That RD415 looks like a nice cable, but is it only available in 1.5mm² ? Those Aico bases are hard enough to wire with 1.0, I wouldn't like to do them with 1.5

Actually, yes they have "learned" to play. The mumber of possible moves even when looking only a few moves ahead quickly becomes too large to handle - which is why early chess programs got got thrashed by even moderate skill players. At the start of a game, there's 20 possible moves, then 20...

    What are these?

Yes, a decent option. But ... What are they called ? Any examples of where they are sold ? Do they do them in the different sizes/shapes needed - some conduits are round, some are oval. I imagine "bush" will appear in the description - but that's a rather generic term to search for.

Question about reinstating socket in shed

But considering the primary function for most RCDs - pritection against direct contact. You'll conduct "considerably more" than 30mA - and trigger all the RCDs. The only one's that won't trip will be thise that are slow enough not to have triggered before another has physically opened its...

    Two 2.5mmT&E to a garage?

Parallel conductors are allowed for in the regs : 433.4 Overload protection of conductors in parallel Where a single protective device protects two or more conductors in parallel there shall be no branch circuits or devices for isolation or switching in the parallel conductors. This regulation...

Question about reinstating socket in shed

Can you clarify: is this existing cable connected to anything or not ? If it's still connected at the house end, what's on the other end ? There is (in practice) no discrimination between a 10mA and 30mA RCD (and 100mA RCD for that matter) - in the event of anything but a fairly high resistance...

Blanki g cooker isolation under sink to pass EICR

Indeed, and it's "really annoying" when many of the "AI" solutions I see making the news are really noting more than basic machine learning - simply reading lots of input-output sets of values and inferring what the relationship between them is.

No, black is a standard colour (along with brown and grey) for line conductors and therefore does not need sleeving brown.

    C U main cable SWA

Err, so you've forgotten the number of threads here (and in other forums) where the EICR claims lots of stuff must be done, but in fact it's a made up excuse for fleecing the customer - or at least, somewhere between that and reality. Not saying that's the case here, but there is certainly scope...

    What are these?

Not 3 supplies, 3 (or more) circuits. Could be one conduit for the sockets, one for downstairs lights, one for upstairs lights. Our house is like that, particularly from the CU up to under the first floor, where one carries on to the socket above (one end of the upstairs RFC), and one carries...
