Best tool for trimming down 18mm MDF and how to support it

They start as full sheets but for access, I'm having them cut down to 2 x 1800 x 610 with the off cut at 1220 x 640. I understand what you say about doing it on the floor but it won't be attached to anything, other than the battons. Surely that is dangerous and likely to be inaccurate ?

Best tool for trimming down 18mm MDF and how to support it

I get the principle of battons across to support the sheet but you can't secure the huge sheet to horses nor a work mate can you ? If so, what am I missing ?

Best tool for trimming down 18mm MDF and how to support it

Circular saw was what I was thinking of but how to support it ? Not really sure how to approach that, largely because of the size (1800 x 600). Also, which blade ?

Best tool for trimming down 18mm MDF and how to support it

I need to trim some MDF. Not a big job, but some degree of accuracy needed. The problem, as I see it, is the length and supporting it as it is cut and the blade necessary. I've a few thoughts but could do with suggestions. MDF pieces are 18m thick and 1800 x 600 and 1200 x 600.

Storage heater in bathroom - possible / advisable ?

I have a Part P guy coming to do the electrical work but I would be repositioning the heater. No sweat as done that loads of times before. I just have the wiring there from another device and it seems logical to use it as it was for a higher rated device. Switches are on Economy 7 which has...

Storage heater in bathroom - possible / advisable ?

I've got a bathroom with no radiators and a spare 1kw storage heater doing nothing. I've also got recently (2010) rewired wiring for a 2kw immersion heater with its own fused on/off switch in the bathroom airing cupboard. This is wired to a new consumer unit on Economy 7. Firstly, is it...

What is a decent single lever bath mixer tap with shower ?

Why so aggressive ? To my mind, it smacks of the middle ages when you just couldn't have a dissenting opinion to the perceived wisdom that the earth was flat. I think the original question asked for suggestions on a decent brand at a fair price. How we got from there to here I do not know.

What is a decent single lever bath mixer tap with shower ?

Where do you get the combi boiler from ? I certainly don't have one. Instantaneous water heater with inbuilt flow rate / temperature control. I take the point about locks at 38c or whatever but in reality, unless you super glued them a kid over 12 months old could press the button and turn...

When to get an electrician in during a cellar conversion ?

So you cannot put in a spur or add a new switch to your own house these days without getting a sparky in ? If so, it is laughable. Happy to have them do it really, just need a decent rate for what is a simple job.

15mm hot water supply to existing 22mm piping - problems ?

I don't get your logic I'm afraid. There is a 22mm supply to the existing immersion tank. I simply propose turning that heater off, letting water flow through it at mains pressure and tap into it at the top, which is nearer where I want to join the new heater. Then simply put on a 22mm to...

15mm hot water supply to existing 22mm piping - problems ?

In an ideal situation I'd invest more money and effort and do a complete overhaul but the property is rented and we'll not be there that long, though long enough to benefit from these modifications. I am not removing the current immersion tank (decades old) and I can either tap into the 22mm...

    Kitchen Fitters!

I reckon I was about 6 or 7 when I knew that such antics were wrong. Decades later, I have still never had the kitchen fitters in.

When to get an electrician in during a cellar conversion ?

Nearly ready to start putting up the stud walling in the cellar and I want to make sure I time the electrician's work as accurately as possible. Consumer unit is in the cellar so what I envisage is a couple of circuits, one for lighting and the other for sockets. I also want to hook up...

What is a decent single lever bath mixer tap with shower ?

Can't use that I'm afraid due to 180mm centres against this at 140/160mm. We're not talking babies using this but children. Over 30 plus years I have not found mixers difficult at all. Better designed ones, presumably with higher grade materials and attention to detail even easier. Water...

What is a decent single lever bath mixer tap with shower ?

I truly can't justify multiples of hundreds but I just know that if I pick a £49 special from the internet it will be truly shocking and be leaking all over. To go on a bath, not a wall, 180mm centres. I want a good action a child can operate and am leaning towards a finger stick operation...

15mm hot water supply to existing 22mm piping - problems ?

Why would there be a loss of pressure ? As I see it, the current piping is 22mm down to 15mm. The proposed will be 22mm to 15mm to 22mm (short run) to 15mm. The minimum size remains the same in both cases. Why would you use an immersion and tank ? You limit the amount of hot water you have...

15mm hot water supply to existing 22mm piping - problems ?

Wouldn't change what ? Current system is defunct or thereabouts, putting in a new immersion heater is just old technology (and always limited quantity) and I've used instantaneous heaters for years with great success. I would obviously prefer 15mm pipes all around but that would vastly...

15mm hot water supply to existing 22mm piping - problems ?

I take your point on the lead in cold water but we'd have that to get through in any case, though pushed through at 22mm and not 15mm I agree, thus delaying somewhat the hot water at the faucet / shower head. New system is electric (as is old, no gas on site). Stiebel Eltron DHF 12C1...

15mm hot water supply to existing 22mm piping - problems ?

The piping from my old immersion heater tank is 22mm (or imperial equivalent) for some length before reducing as it feeds different places and the outlet from my proposed instantaneous water heater replacement is only 12/15mm. I do not want to rip out pipework unnecessarily but canI live with...
