    Radiator in front of fireplace

Hi, we are currently refurbishing a 1930s bungalow we bought and was thinking of boarding up the fireplace and moving a radiator in front of it. Presumably we need to have a vent for the boarded up fireplace - is it okay to have the radiator directly in front of the vent? TIA!

Cooker hood and ventilation problems in flat

Thanks, it doesn't have one. Does it go on the MEV exhaust duct before the cooker hood exhaust joins? And is a flap sufficient or do I need a electric damper?

Cooker hood and ventilation problems in flat

Here's the floorpan without the proposed hood and here's what I'm proposing. Hope those images make sense. Note the ducting number of turns/lengths/etc are quite from memory so they're not accurate.

Cooker hood and ventilation problems in flat

Thanks everyone for the help! So, the plan is to get a extracting cooker hood connected to a backdraft flap and then join the MEV's exhaust duct with a Y piece. Where do I put the backdraft flap for MEV? do I put two for in MEV intake side (one for the kitchen and one for the bathroom) or...

Cooker hood and ventilation problems in flat

Why do I need it on both fans? wouldn't it be enough just on the hood?

Cooker hood and ventilation problems in flat

Yeh, its pretty air tight. wouldn't the valve/damper mitigate the problem of having an extracting hood?

Cooker hood and ventilation problems in flat

Thanks. presumably with the one-way flap/valve I won't have the problems with the hood interfering with the MEV as mentioned in the Nuaire link? will the long duct run (>6m with at least 1 turn) be a problem? Also, I had another thought - could I install hood with no fan and connect it up to...

Cooker hood and ventilation problems in flat

Thanks. the other side if the wall the cooker is on is party to the communal hall so we can't vent straight out unfortunately . The outside wall is about 6m across the room. We're not allowed to make any holes on the exterior wall according to our lease so that was why I was thinking of...

Cooker hood and ventilation problems in flat

Hi all, We live in a small flat with a open plan kitchen and living area. The problem is that when cooking the room gets quite smelly, smoky and hot. We currently have a re-circulating cooker hood and also a round ceiling vent attached to a central continuous ventilation MEV (which also vents...

Slow running kitchen sink - bad installation?

Hi, My mum lives in a council house and about 4 years ago they renovated her kitchen. Since about a year or two ago the kitchen sink has been running really slowly. We've tried using the supermarket sink unblockers but that didn't help. I bought one of those cheap 3m long metal sink...

Inspection hatch for flue in void - building warranty issue?

speaking to our neighbour and it seems like a common issues for a lot of the flats here. I agree, how did these installations ever get signed off by the NHBC?

Inspection hatch for flue in void - building warranty issue?

Finally got a update. I contacted both NHBC and the builders about the issue and passed on the report by the British Gas engineer. The builders again denied that the inspection hatches was their responsibility but NHBC agreed with me that they are responsible for the flue fall and the...

It was British Gas and they gave me a Safety Warning with the "At Risk" section filled in.

Inspection hatch for flue in void - building warranty issue?

Just had the gas engineers round and he said the flues were (shockingly) not properly installed. There's water collecting in the flues as they were installed flat rather than at an angle. He also said that the inspection hatches are indeed inadequate to properly inspect the entire length of the...
