    Hi, I think so, although now they're stuck down it's hard to tell, certainly no damp smell. In the end I sealed the concrete with that black liquid damp seal stuff (Wickes sell it), then mortared on top. So far so good.

    Hi, I'm looking to lay pamments in my dining room fireplace to create a hearth for a woodburner. The current base to the fireplace (flush with the floorboards) is the original concrete. I assume it's laid directly on to the bare earth below the house (I'm in a typical Edwardian terrace)...

    Sounds hopeful, thanks. I guess as I'll probably carpet on top, I could always run some carpet down over the top too, to smooth it off. Any ideas where I'd get some firring battens? Never come across them in B&Q...
