    How to stop render failure?

The conclusion was that it wasn't subsidence, instead the various/many cracks were down to a number of unrelated minor problems. The report was done via the insurance company, so is very limited in detail. I've attached pictures of the cracks in the rear bedroom which has been linked to...

    How to stop render failure?

On a report about suspected subsidence by my insurance company, there is a paragraph in the document which states: "The configuration of the cracking in the render on the rear is considered typical by the onset of render failure. This particularly occurs when a strong render has been applied...

Bumps and perforations appearing in plasterboard

We moved in in April last year, so not quite sure when plasterwork was last done on it. There are some long narrow ones ~2cm in width. But they vary, and some are splodgy. There is no obvious signs of moisture/damp, but if there was, would I expect such a result? I will look for a small bump...

Using lead as a chimney cap

As a result of leakage, we had some repair work done on our roof. The roofer also wrapped lead around the top of the unused chimney as a cap. In retrospect it looks ugly, however is this safe? (considering lead can be poisonous). I'm not sure whether he also left some air gaps to avoid damp...

Getting rid of weed on block paved driveway

...which is inevitably what the marketing material says, otherwise how would they convince you to buy their poison? Glyphosphate is toxic to all organisms. In turns off the production of amino acids in plants that animals require for protein synthesis. This means that roundup is an endocrine...

Getting rid of weed on block paved driveway

I have a fair bit of weed growing between the cracks on my block paved driveway, trying to pull them out individually isn't viable due to the vast amounts (also it end up pulling the joining material out in the process). Advice for fixing damaged kitchen worktop surface

How would an iron draw out the white water rings? Is moisture causing the white effect? (I would have assumed moisture would cause it to turn darker?). I don't know what the original treatment was as I have brought the property recently.

Advice for fixing damaged kitchen worktop surface

Hi, The area around my sink got damaged over the weekend. I suspect it may be due to lingering baking soda and vinegar which I was using to clean the sink itself. The staining on the wood has been burned off, leaving the surface exposed. Pictures below: Any suggestions to fix...

Are these grey 8mm wall plugs suitable for masonry?

Have quite a heavy mirror to put up, and unsure whether to use the standard 7mm brown plugs, or these 8mm grey ones: Is the above suitable for masonry, or are they usually for plasterboard? If the plug is 8mm do I use a 8mm drill bit? What size screw would be suitable? Thanks!

High frequency bee activity on side of outside wall

I noticed the other day a lot of bees (2-3 a minute) going in, and coming out of a small hole on the outside of the house brickwork. I think it's very likely that there is a hive within the cavity of the wall :S What's usually the best way to deal with bees? Would/could the council help here...
