    Loft boarding in Victorian terrace

Hi, I have recently been having some problems with my roof which has caused me to spend more time than usual in the loft. It is a right mess and I would like to tidy it up, and make it easier to use for storage etc. My intention, if possible, is to board the floor using the green t&g floorboards...

    Very damp in the loft..

Right so some more advise is required, I was up there again today poking around and have discovered yet more damp! Hooray. I think it's probably all part of the same problem so hopefully the roofer will make it nice and watertight. Anyway.. the next door neighbors have had a loft conversion done...

    Very damp in the loft..

Yeah that seems like a sensible cause of action, I will do that for sure. Thanks again!

    Very damp in the loft..

Thanks @datarebal , could you elaborate on the rafter trimmer? I'm not familiar with that term. Should I try and stuff that hanging bit of felt somewhere? Or just leave it as is so as not to disturb things? Cheers

    Very damp in the loft..

When I asked about pictures he suggested he could go back up and take pictures to demonstrate what he was saying, but to be honest I didn't have much time and what he had said kind of tied in with what I could discern from being in the loft, tied in with what you had suggested in your previous...

    Very damp in the loft..

Just had the roofer out (used the guy before and he did a decent job sorting out the mess someone else had made) and he reckons that a few slates need replacing and that the loft has nowhere near enough ventilation. The biggest revelation however is that both chimney stacks have *******ized...

    Very damp in the loft..

I will try and get some yeah. It's funny you should mention the chimney flashing, basically the end of the ridge is like a hipped end if that makes sense? Kind of pyramid-esque? Pictures would help.. But yeah, when I had a chimney liner fitted I could see that a piece of flashing on the forward...

    Very damp in the loft..

I will set to getting a roofer out asap! And try and get a look at the soffits over the weekend, from what I could see from the inside they seemed pretty solid but to be fair I couldn't really 'see' as much as I was poking at them with a bit of plastic piping.. A part of me wants to drag all...

    Very damp in the loft..

So I just checked the insulation. It's very uneven, seemingly much thicker towards the edges of the loft? It isn't stuffed right up to the soffits though, as I ha initially suspected. The soffits have no ventilation in them, is this something that ought to be addressed? Fitting vents every few...

    Very damp in the loft..

Also, other things of note. The damp seems worse on the right hand side when looking at it, which is also the side closer the to bathroom. (Although the house is quite long so the bathroom ceiling is still a good ten-fifteen feet from this point). Another thing is that it's almost directly above...

    Very damp in the loft..

Yeah @JohnD their are round downlighters in the bathroom ceiling, also I think that possibly some pipes and holes etc going into the loft from the airing cupboard where the boiler is located. I also have a feeling the roof is leaking @chappers .I have taken some photos earlier so I will try...

    Very damp in the loft..

Hi. I live in a C. 1900 end terrace which has various small problems but is, for the most part, quite sound. Earlier this year we noticed condensation on the landing between the bedroom and bathroom, presumably down the showering etc. Started using a dehumidifier whenever we use and it seems to...

Confused about "distance to combustable materials"...

So I have just purchased a wood burning stove and am in the process of fitting it. A local HETAS registered fitter is going to come and install the liner, connect it up and (hopefully) sign it off. I'm gonna do pretty much everything else. I have removed the old gas fire, tidied up the opening...

    Garage overhaul!

That is really helpful! Thanks so much haha! Gutted about the car getting stolen.. thievery is low. I thought about using poly board stuff as it's so cheap but I will probably be doing a good bit of welding in there and I hear it doesn't respond well to accidental fires! Cheers

    Garage overhaul!

I'm not 100% sure where the moisture comes from to be honest. I naively assumed it just kind of came from the air haha? I guess the garage door probably lets a small amount of water in under it so I could definitely do something about that. There are gaps all around the edge of the roof which...

    Garage overhaul!

This is my first post so sorry if I sound like an idiot. :D Basically I want to overhaul my garage to make better use of it. It's a sectional concrete type but it's a reasonable size.. about 10ftx20ft. It used to have an asbestos roof which was removed and replaced with a corrugated sheet...
