    Tax reform

Council tax is unfair because it is not linked to the ability to pay. My wife and I are retired and earn between us less than 30K. The people either side of us earn around 150k per couple. Our house is slightly bigger (well it has a double garage - the neighbours have a single, garage). and is...

    Loft condensation even with ventilation

None as yet, but it sometimes drips onto the loft insulation. I'm worried it might cause mould though.

    Loft condensation even with ventilation

This morning my unheated conservatory has condensation on the outside of the glass. My original point was that if the glass is cold enough to cause condensation, and the same external air is free to circulate inside my loft why wouldn't it condense on the roof tiles (assuming they are just as...

    Loft condensation even with ventilation

    Loft condensation even with ventilation

Thanks for your reply You need a through draft in the loft to keep fresh air going through. Yes - lots of through draft - added new vents. As per my post, if the outside air sometimes condenses on the outside widows, surely it would condense on the inside of the roof (given that the air comes...

    Loft condensation even with ventilation

Each year my loft gets condensation on the north facing roof. I've tried the usual ventilation fixes and sealing gaps in the loft access etc). This seems to work to an extent but the issue still persists on very cold days (not happened yet this year, but I expect it will). I also have an...

Sentinel System Filter - which is the inlet

Thanks - that is what I was thinking. Given that some boilers are top feed (mine is), you would have thought that Sentinel would have provide the details though.

Sentinel System Filter - which is the inlet

I have a "new old stock" Sentinel System Filter. It is the brass one, but not the one with a removeable magnet. https://www.gassupportservices.co.uk/f/m/Sentinal/Data%20Sheets/System%20Filter.pdf The fitting instructions do not state which is the inlet port. I'm guessing that it the lower one...

Question about central heating vent pipe

Actually it is to avoid having to manhandle the vent pipe out of the way if I want to take the lid off.

Question about central heating vent pipe

Wouldn't the vent inlet be better above the overflow level? The lid isn't hermetically sealed - so air ingress should be OK. Also air can enter via the overflow pipe.

Question about central heating vent pipe

Maybe a picture would explain it better....

Question about central heating vent pipe

I understand that and my intention is that the vent pipe would enter the tank (horizontally) above the water level and remain above the water level. My question is whether this is permissible - or must the expansion pipe enter via the lid (vertically)?

Question about central heating vent pipe

My central heating header tank did not have a lid (the builders missed it off for some reason). I've made a replacement lid from marine ply and covered with polythene. It fits snugly apart from the hole I've had to make in the top for the vent pipe to enter. I'd prefer to have this pipe enter...

Bypass valve problem and question about CH manifold

Both problems solved. I had a spare bypass valve, I fitted that and it works as expected. Unfortunately (for me) the spare valve was a 90 degree angle whereas the original was a straight through one - so I had to re-do the pipework. After I had finished I took apart the original pipework and...

Bypass valve problem and question about CH manifold

Yes it is an ABV. Tried it at max (0.5) and min (0.1) and everything in between.

Bypass valve problem and question about CH manifold

Sorry if I've not explained correctly. I'll try again. As you say, the pump is a short way back from, the 3 way valve. I've added a tee into the pipe between the pump and the 3 way. I've connected a bypass valve to the tee (with its directional arrow pointing away from the tee). I've added a tee...

Bypass valve problem and question about CH manifold

I've just installed a bypass valve on my central heating so as to avoid having to have a radiator turned on all the time. I've installed a tee just before the 3 way valve input and another tee on the return pipe from the hot water cylinder, the bypass valve sits between the two. The...
