    MDF and wall paint

You will find that walls in matt and units in eggshell or satin will look very, very slightly different. It is down to the way that the light refracts off each of the paints. You can buy matt paints suitable for the MDF but they will be difficult to keep clean. Years ago, I specialised in...

Where to hang the blinds on bay window

Take your time measuring up. You don't want to find that the middle blind is so wide that when you open each of the blinds they clash/hit each other. A 50mm blind will require a bigger gap than, for example, a 25mm blind. The following kinda explains it but not very comphrensively...

    Porcelain tile cutting

Agreed, a 115 or 125mm grinder will be be easier to control. I have only ever used a 9" when cutting 40mm deep sandstone floor tiles. With the right set up, you should be able to use a smaller angle grinder within 0.5mm tolerances even over 1000mm (free hand). I have seen people on the...

    Stuck Pegler TRV

Just to update. I decided to swerve the rad removal. The customer got a plumber in. I hadn't realised that when you take the Peglar TRV head off, there is another section which needs to be removed to access the basic pin. The plumber fitted a decorator's cap over the lower pin which stopped...

    Sander Adaptor to vacuum cleaner

https://www.partshopdirect.co.uk/black-and-decker-sander-and-jigsaw-vacuum-adaptor-p368608/ That seems to be the part, but check before ordering it. Unfortunately, the site doesn't say what the diameter of the round part is, meaning that you may need a stepped adaptor as well. As mentioned...

    Coat hangers

I was going to recommend those but wont the OP need to use the setting tool given that the collars don't have spikes to prevent them spinning as you try make the body collapse?

    Coat hangers

You can drill into two of the existing holes. Silicone might work if the orientation was different. By that, I mean that if the rack ran down the door rather than horizontally there would be less of a shear load.

    Stop, go - diynot

I am in London, no speed problems over the last couple of days. Am using my laptop and the pub Starlink as the ISP.

How to open up (old) Bosch drill? Any tips?

As above, it may be the case that there is a screw hidden under the label. The casing of the drill may have changed over the years.

Fixing heavy showerscreen to hollow wall

You are correct that most shower screen channels have a slight rebate. My point was more about the many other items that might be fitted that need to sit flat. Tox were the first nylon fittings that I came across which would wind up the screw thread, and as I said, they did them with and...

Fixing heavy showerscreen to hollow wall

It is a shame that the Duo plugs are not available without a collar. I guess you can chisel off the collar after though to enable fittings to sit flush. I used to use the Tox plugs in the old days, they sold them with and without collars. Difficult to get hold of over here now.

    Cheap Belt Sander

The downsides to the green Bosch are that it is only a single speed and that the brushes cannot be replaced. On the upside, it can be turned upside down. I have used the pro-version of the sander, it was pretty good but unlike my old Dewalt/ELU belt sander, you need to use two hands. Unlike my...

sliding doors gap to plastered wall

I am only a lowly decorator. I normally see the plastering done after the fitting. In defence of the fitters, they often allow a gap to accommodate any discrepancies.

    Stuck Pegler TRV

Tnx, I have used my nicotine gum in the past to "glue" coins in decorator's caps in the past. Icky, but I also use nicotine gum to hold screws onto the end of the screwdriver when needed. Even ickier... this week a mate and I made a nicotine snowman. Absent of carrots, I made the nose out of a...

    Ceiling bumps / lines

I have never seen plasterboard do that before. Cracks are typically straight lines. Is it possible that they are concrete ceilings? You could sand them back with a random orbital sander (ideally connected to a dust extractor). Alternatively, you could have then reskimmed.

Wood vs PVC beading for engineered wood flooring?

In a rectangular room, you would still need to remove 2 of the skirting boards (opposite side and one adjacent). That means that the OP would need to rip down those two lengths height wise. Yeah, it could be done with a multi-tool but unless the timber is not very deep, the fixing cap on the...

    Stuck Pegler TRV

Many thanks. I don't have the decorator cap but I plan to use a 15m end cap with a washer. Would WD40 be sufficient?
