Corsa e rear drum brake adjustment

OK, but you still cant beat a gentle thwack with a hammer! The right hand cylinder rubber seems slightly further out than the left.......can you tap the shoes both ways to see if the cylinder is free? John :)

Corsa e rear drum brake adjustment

Did you check the wheel cylinder for movement? The shoes should be self adjusting but........they often don't! I turn the adjuster three clicks at a time, then bash the drum with a hammer whilst rotating it - this keeps the shoes central. Post pics if you can! John :)

Head Gasket failure!? My Ka Mk1 project....

Curious indeed.....! However, Mr. RAC determined that the thermostat wasn't opening.......if this is the case, no wonder you had coolant loss. Didn't he comment on that? Regards John :)

Head Gasket failure!? My Ka Mk1 project....

A compression test would (probably) only show a leak between the combustion chamber(s) through the gasket - not necessarily into the waterways. I've used the colour test kit before - it was conclusive on a major failure but a lot less so otherwise. I can't say if the alloy Duratec head can be...

Head Gasket failure!? My Ka Mk1 project....

Real bad luck, that one! Let's not jump in too soon, remove and test the thermostat once more, then fill up with coolant and start up. You'll feel a surge of heat when the thermostat opens if you hold your hand on the radiator. Then, look for bubbles and maybe some oil in the header tank...

Marley Modern Tiles Colour Fading/Surface Wearing Away

Morning Emma, all is jolly this south of the border, thanks!(y) I do think your tiles are a result of a production run rather than algae, but whether it's a 'bad run' or not I can't say. I still wouldn't worry about it, but I'd be pleased to see a Marley rep on site to discuss the issue. Are...

Marley Modern Tiles Colour Fading/Surface Wearing Away

Hi Emma! Whilst I agree the markings do look like lichen, it's curious that it isn't covering the entire tile - and the affected ones all look the same, i.e on the right side of the tile. The tiles do look in good condition though, and for one I wouldn't be worrying about it but we'd be...

    Wet belts

Car salesmen aren't interested in you or indeed the products they sell.......all they want is their commission, nowt else! It seems Peugeot and Citroen have much of the market for high roof vans, there's the Merc Sprinter of course......depends on your budget! John :)

    Wet belts

Have you considered the Toyota ProAce? Essentially Citroen but I find they are better built than usual, and the Adblue problems seem to have been sorted. Diesel 1.5 or 2.2 or electric. Up to 10 years warranty, if serviced by Toyota. Avoid auto if possible. Ford's wet belt is a truly dreadful...

    Tool of the Week

Looking at the depth of the jaw throat, Id say it was used for tightening square nuts, i.e railway issue. John :)

    Tool of the Week

We used to refer to these things as Abingdon adjustable wrenches.......many varieties around, used in locomotive works and steel fabrication. John :)

Tarting up my Honda 2010 CRV

Maybe a little late in the day, but CarMats.co.uk sorted out a boot mat for 'er indoors Yaris - sturdy enough, choice of rubber or carpet, reasonably priced. I checked out a new van for a mate recently - a Toyota ProAce.....nice bit of kit, almost entirely Citroen. Not what I was expecting...

Car creaking noise at low speeds

For sure, any Macpherson strut system can be checked this way. Another sort of trick of the trade - if you suspect a wheel bearing fault for example - which often doesn't show up as play - grip the spring and spin the wheel.......you'll feel a thrumming through the spring. Front or rear too...

Car creaking noise at low speeds

Try this....jack the car up, feel the spring when someone turns the steering wheel for you. This shows up any strut top bearing problems big time! John

    Car ticking/clicking/flapping running noise

Gearbox rebuilds aren't as complex as one may think but getting the correct parts are. Usually all that's needed are synchro hubs, bearings and oil seals so lots of research needed before getting stuck in! John

    Over-filled power steering

Any sign of leakage around the rack boots area? My wee Bipper had a steel rack pipe rubbed through- not available from Peugeot but Ebay came to my rescue. John
