    Chrome os flex

This may seem basic to someone with more computer skills than me but am a bit stuck. I have an old HP laptop which is 15 years old which was my daughters when she started uni in 2010. She has newer ones now. Originally it had Windows 7 on it, I upgraded it to windows 10. After managing to...

    Air in filter

I had a new Worcester Bosch heat only boiler fitted nearly a month ago with one of those filters inline above the boiler. The heating bloke also replaced a manual bleed valve with what he said was an automatic one in the airing cupboard upstairs. He did this off his own back, fair enough. I have...

Tried to install windows 11 on an old laptop.

I read that someone had installed windows 11 on a 12 year old laptop. I have a 15 year old HP laptop that I just kept as a back up to my desktop pc and tablet. I installed windows 10 on it when it came out and would install the security updates every now and then. So following a YouTube tutorial...

    Noisy boiler

I have a 30 year old Glow Worm economy plus boiler which has been fairly reliable over this period. It is just on morning and late afternoon at the moment for hot water only. A couple of days ago the metal casing has started to vibrate when boiler fires up. If I put my hand on the front of the...

    Cold water tank overflowing

Our cold water tank has been overflowing, mainly at night but in the day today also. Last night I turned the water off to the tank and on again this morning. My plumber can't get until next week. Looked at YouTube videos which seemed to concentrate on just changing the inner part of the valve...

    Dripping valve

I cleaned out my f&e tank and added fresh inhibitor as it was 20 odd months since I last did it. I drained some water off via the valve on rad in kitchen, see photo, now though it won't stop dripping, never had this problem last time I did it. Have tightened it up as much as it will go. Any...

Should I change my old working gas boiler?

I have a 30 yr old Glow Worm gas boiler that was in our new build house when we bought it. It has been serviced annually. It is a conventional boiler. Our house is a 3 bed detached with double glazing and a good level of loft insulation, have topped it up myself. When build it had block foam...

Water leak from gas fire flue

I have seen a previous post about something similar, not sure if it applies to my problem. I have had a roofer twice to fix a leak around where flue exits the roof. He had a second go as there was still a leak from somewhere. Applied a lot of sealant. The leak was not from inside the flue pipe...

    Nasty bathroom smell

I have read previous posts on bad smells, not sure where the bad drain smell, (I think), is coming from in our bathroom. House was built in 1995 and we have been here since then. This has not happened before. Smell is just in bathroom, en suite shower room is next door but no smell there. Cannot...

    Bath u bend leak

We noticed a stain on our utility room ceiling and worked out it was from the bath. We do not use the bath but flush the u bend out weekly to stop it drying out but only say half a kettle full. Managed to get bath panel off after a struggle. Surprised to see the hole in the floor to fit the u...

? Which graphics card. If any.

I am an oldie surfer, I have a basic Palicomp desktop pc running windows 10, bought in 2016 for about £260 odd I believe. It cannot update to Windows 11. I only do basic stuff on this and a Fire tablet. I was thinking of getting the Palicomp AMD Cobra which Computer Active magazine recommends...

    ? Which connector

Can someone tell me what connector to use in my vacuum cleaner. It is a 9 yr old Panasonic upright bagged one. It has been cutting in and out when in use. Accessed the wiring and it has got a split in one area. The 2 wires go into a crimped connector with another wire which goes to the switch...

How many burglar alarm boxes allowed

Is there any restriction on the number of alarm boxes allowed on a domestic property? The neighbour on one side has just had a new system installed, he has a double garage with a room over it, the side is about 8 feet from my house. He has had 5 boxes installed, one on the front of his house...

Stuck 55mm brass nut in shower

Our Mira shower, not electric, is leaking so sent for a service kit. I have watched the Youtube video a few times to see how to do it. Why does it always look easy in these videos? I am unable to get the 55mm brass nut off using a pipe wrench to access the parts that need sorting. Tried the...

    Stiff flow control

I have a Mira 88 mixer shower that has been in use since we moved into the house which was a new build in 1995. The shower has worked fine for all the years. Got in shower last night as usual, flow control worked fine, went to turn it off and it had gone very stiff. Did manage to turn it off. My...

    ? Non standard tap valves.

Is there such a thing as a non standard tap valve? I have a dripping tap on my bath mixer tap. It is 28 yrs old. Must be a 3 /4" valve I thought, decided to have new tap heads as well so sent for a tap reviver kit with acrylic heads to match sink taps. Went to fit one on cold side first, easier...

    What's this?

Can anyone tell me what this is? T is located on the overflow pipe where it exits the main cold water tank in the loft. I have not noticed it before as it was covered by the tank insulation. Not a good picture I know, sorry. The pipe comes out at the bottom of the photo and the tank is behind it.

I have removed the cistern as it was leaking somewhere. It is a Shires make put in our new build 26 yrs ago. Got a new close coupling kit from Screwfix. Closed coupled wc leak

I recently fitted a replacement Dudley flush syphon, a few days later noticed water dripping from the left hand wing nut thread. I emptied cistern, dried all round the flush down pipe, noticed that black was coming off from the internal washer, so maybe perishing after 27 yrs! Applied Fernox...
