Okay, loosened it off but haven't had much luck :( Haven't made it any worse though (yet!). I could actually get it flush clamping as you described, but even with the closest bolt tightened double-tight, it creeps back up when i release the temporary clamps. I think the problem is...

... am I asking for trouble? Just done my first DIY worktop joint (mason's mitre) and I'm very pleased with the result. The cuts match up perfectly and it looked great when i first tightened the bolts. I was careful not to over-tighten, but 2 days later it looks like it's moved a bit...
