True! Silly of me, I hadn't thought of that.

Using old bricks that have been lying around in our garden for years

Thanks for letting me know. They've actually been lying on concrete, underneath a shed, but are quite wet because the rain can get at them.

Using old bricks that have been lying around in our garden for years

Can one do this, even if they are have been left out in the rain? We are having a new boiler put in and will need to fill a small gap in the back wall of our house because the old boiler had a much larger flue than the new one. We've been told that we should buy bricks as using the old ones...

    breathable paint for stone walls?

Zampa "Paint for new plaster" was just the man in Brewers' description of the paint. What he gave me could not be described as expensive paint. Wandle

    breathable paint for stone walls?

Hi there are several breathable emulsions. I think they are the water-based ones, not the ones with vinyl. I used one on my cottage in Sussex, as it's damp and I was told the walls needed to breathe. I'm not in the cottage at the moment, so can't tell you the name, but I got it from my...

How deep should lead flashing go?

I am putting back some lead flashing that has come adrift. It is at the juntion of our conservatory roof and the back of the house. A builder put it up years ago and now it needs putting back properly. What I would like to know is, how deep should it be set into the mortar between the bricks...

    Whats that paint called?

Hi everybody sometime ago I saw a discussion on this forum about the kind of paint that lets wood breath. It had a name but I can't remember what it was. I have to paint three external doors at my seafront cottage in windswept Seaford and I wondered if it would stand up to all that salt and...

Thanks, Joe, I think we'll take both your suggestions - buy it off the Internet and go for the 16mm thickness.

Is there such a thing as a bag to store a ladder in ? !!

HI Robbie I hadn't thought of that, funnily enough, though I am well aware of the detrimental effect of central heating on wooden furniture. We certainly don't want a perilous ladder, especially as my other half is frequently perched on it at gutter level. I shall be glad to be rid of the...

Polycarbonate sheeting - which one to buy?

Hi Breezer, I wasn't ungrateful for your suggestion, I just thought I'd try it out where it didn't matter, as I'm bound to make a bog of it first time!

Polycarbonate sheeting - which one to buy?

Hi Deluks It's not really a lean to. I suppose it is really an extension in that it's solid brick, with a proper floor. The wall facing on to the garden has proper windows in it. It's just the polycarbonate roof that makes it seem like a lean to! It's about 8 ft by 10 ft. If it had been me...

Is there such a thing as a bag to store a ladder in ? !!

Thanks, Breezer I think the tarp option might be the only one, seeing as it's so large.

Is there such a thing as a bag to store a ladder in ? !!

Thanks for your replies, It's a lovely wooden ladder, rather an old one but in good condition, that has aluminium bits on the steps. It might deteriorate rather, being mainly wood, I fear. Our shed is too small and we can't get a bigger shed because our garden is so tiny!!!!

Polycarbonate sheeting - which one to buy?

It's a tiny space and we are not likely to heat it. But would the thicker sheeting also keep it cooler in summer, as well as warmer in winter? It certainly would be good if the extreme temperatures could be modified a bit! thanks for your help.
