Ford KA mk1 - fettling and diagnosis - First diy car service

hmm what would that leave then.... it seems to be running on all 4. No holes in the exhaust from what I can see. How hard can holes be to see? Does it just need to be a pin hole? The specific issue is that it always takes 3 times to start. First attempt it tries, but fails. Second time it gets...

Ford KA mk1 - fettling and diagnosis - First diy car service

OK, next on my list is the fuel filter (unlikely to have been changed in 16 years) , and to check the spark plugs and coil packs. Apparently this engine can have an issue with spark plug removal as the block is aluminium an the spark plugs are steel. So if they have been in there a good...

Ford KA mk1 - fettling and diagnosis - First diy car service

Well, I removed the air filter housing and the filter actually looked brand new. But that gave me a chance to at least look into the throttle body (which is what the MAP sensor is going into) to see how dirty it looked in general, and....well....it looked brand new too. The butterfly valve looks...

Ford KA mk1 - fettling and diagnosis - First diy car service

Looking in the gap between the as per that example picture, there is not the same block of plastic. There is something slightly to the right (different angle of above), but looks much smaller. It could be this. But looks a total pain to remove. Contrary to how easy that forum post made it...

Yeh, I can see something, but it does not quite look like that.

Ford KA mk1 - fettling and diagnosis - First diy car service

Yeh, I saw this one too, my only confusion is that, from what I can see. this is totally inaccessible without removing the manifold. But, that other forum implies it was easy to remove and clean. But maybe it is there, and the previous post got their left and right mixed up.

Ford KA mk1 - fettling and diagnosis - First diy car service

Ahh, I was basing it on this video: Similar problem presentation. Takes multiple turns to start (different engine though). So I thought....an easy clean....just one thing to tick off.......if I can find it.

Ford KA mk1 - fettling and diagnosis - First diy car service

Ok, maybe I need to retract my "everything is easy to access". I was wondering if the issue could related to a dirty MAF sensor. But, being unable to locate anything relating to that, and a bit of digging, it would seem this engine does not have a MAF sensor and only has a MAP sensor, which may...

Ford KA mk1 - fettling and diagnosis - First diy car service

Haha, I have! Nearly lost a hand doing it, or rather it looked like I had a fight with a potato peeler! Did you go for the wheel arch liner removal method? Or permanent hand damage via contortion route?

Ford KA mk1 - fettling and diagnosis - First diy car service

Yes, it has a coil pack, and a fuel filter just next to the fuel tank, just before the rear passenger side wheel arch. Everything is very accessible. It's the 1.3 Duratec engine (mid 00s).

Ford KA mk1 - fettling and diagnosis - First diy car service

Hello, Helping someone fettle their Ford KA mk1 which, you will be surprised to hear, has not rusted to dust. The last few years it has been a bit unloved and it may not have had a proper service since 2021/2022. Prior to that it was serviced every year by ford going back to new. Bodywork...

    Ford Fiesta cam belt

I assume you are talking about the Ecoboost wet belt? I think this mainly affects the 1.2 ecoboost. There is a lot of literature in forums about this, as well as youtube vidoes. To put it simply, some manufacturers moved to a "wet cam belt" design. Where the belt is sumbmerged in oil in the...

    Dpf cleaning or buying

Sounds like the the Eloys (or similar) additive which is a separate bag of fluid that is hidden away. I think the replacement interval is about 75k (depending on car brand + driving habits) so it sounds like you are right on the money! Hopefully that fixes your issues.

    Dpf cleaning or buying

Yeh, there are so many guides/suggestions on how to maintain a DPF it's hard to say. I could be wrong. From what understand, most modern cars maintain the DPF quite often without the owner realising. As long as the car is up to a good temperature and over a certain speed, the Engine Management...

    Dpf cleaning or buying

One thing you might want to check, is if there is another cause to the issue. The fact you are having emission issues when doing 15,000 miles a year and only 80k seems odd. Even if you aren't revving it, assuming you were doing long trips every so often should have been enough to keep the DPF...

Disconnecting Car Battery - Modern Cars

C4 Grand Picasso/Spacetourer 2018 The only reason I was concerned it needed disconnecting was a video on youtube that analysed the pulse repair mode of a charger similar to mine. He mentions briefly about the voltage being as high as 16v on pulse repair, which he says "is probably not good for...

What is the general view of just disconnecting the battery for an extended period? Could it actually cause a headache?

Disconnecting Car Battery - Modern Cars

I have a car battery that is OK, but could do with a reconditioning charge, the pulse rectifier type. However from what I can see, it is probably best to disconnect it from the car to do this, as part of the pulsing includes hitting it with voltages over 16v (or something along those lines)...

Hotpoint Dishwasher HFE 2B+26 CN UK does not start

You might find this useful. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1268507/Whirlpool-200-380-21.html#manual It's a service manual for a Whirlpool that might be very similar. Usually the internals of same brand dishwashers are used across the range and stay the same for a good long while. So all...

Hotpoint Dishwasher HFE 2B+26 CN UK does not start

Does the new latch include any switch contacts that might be engaged by the latch? It very much sounds like something is not making a connection or engaging a switch/contact. Look at what the latch connects to. Is there a relay or something that needs replacing.
