Anti syphon valve - should it stop "gurgling"?

Thanks Dilalio, You’ve just given me a game plan for my next 6 months of plumbing projects! That’s really helpful and I wish the plumbers I could hire were as perfectionist. Interesting comments about the boiler run-off pipe. That’s a new install by a plumber with a good reputation!

Anti syphon valve - should it stop "gurgling"?

It terminates outside the house after about 3m of pipe - and is misconnected into the rainwater drain - so sulphuric acid down it would probably kill local wildlife. :-( A good scrub with a drain snake might do the trick?

Anti syphon valve - should it stop "gurgling"?

OK - so spigots pointing upward? I've done that, and it still gurgles unfortunately! Ah well. Looking forward to the day when I re-do the kitchen and can give the appliances their own pipes to the drain.

Anti syphon valve - should it stop "gurgling"?

Thanks. That's useful advice. Haha! I installed the spigots exactly as they with in the trap that I replaced! By 90 degrees you mean that the spigots point left and right rather than forward and backwards? I am aware that the waste hoses from the appliances are not well installed - there is...

Anti syphon valve - should it stop "gurgling"?

Here it is! I'm quite proud of my handiwork! https://postimg.cc/image/4jftsyhnh/ There are two appliances there, a Dishwasher and a Washing Machine. Both gurgle when draining. Edit: The trap is basically the two-appliance version of this one...

Anti syphon valve - should it stop "gurgling"?

The WM11V doesn't get its own page: " Available as Anti-Syphon (Silentrap). Add suffix "V" to product code" It's quite obscure. Wolseley were the only supplier I could find for it!

Anti syphon valve - should it stop "gurgling"?

To add some more info, when I drain the sink now, it is pretty much gurgle-free. Only the appliances gurgle when they drain.

Anti syphon valve - should it stop "gurgling"?

Thanks! The drain drains outside (yes - I know this is not good practice) and I can see the water flow out the pipe. It seems to flow out quickly without obstructions. Could there still be a blockage causing the gurgling? I should add that the reason I replaced the trap is that the sink has...

Anti syphon valve - should it stop "gurgling"?

Hi, I'm a new homeowner and learning basic plumbing. I've just carried out my first successful piece of work - I replaced the smelly old sink trap in the kitchen with a new trap. No leaks (so far!), and I think I can count it as a success! When I replaced the trap, I chose a McAlpine Trap with...

Diagnosing a waterhammer / "clunk" / pipe whirr?

Thanks all. I'm going to ask the housing association who manage the block to get a plumber out. Suspect the pipes in the main riser are loose and so carrying the noise.

Diagnosing a waterhammer / "clunk" / pipe whirr?

Thanks Newboy! All good suggestions I wondered this, but our pressure at 2.2 bar is relatively low. Not this, stopcock is fully open (though I wonder if it is fitted the wrong way round? The way it is fitted, the water main is arriving from above, which surprises me) I don't think...

Diagnosing a waterhammer / "clunk" / pipe whirr?

Hi all, I live in a small block of flats about 10 years old. Over the last year or so many of the flats have developed "clunk" sounds when taps are turned off and whirring when the water is running. The mains water pipes run behind my bedroom wall, so I am trying to figure out the problem...

    Mystery pipe next to stopcock??

Bingo! That must indeed be what it is. I wish they'd have told me - I only just refilled by thermal store tank by hand one bottle of water at a time from the kitchen sink.... Thanks very much to you all for your help with this - I think oldbuffer has solved the mystery. :-)

    Mystery pipe next to stopcock??

Thanks for your help. It is a new build first floor flat so it can't be for an outside pipe. I'm still mystified, but I guess the builders must have used it in the construction. Do blocked off pipes like this have any tendency to leak?

    Mystery pipe next to stopcock??

Hi all, I have a piece of dead-end piping attached on a junction to my mains pipe just before the stop cock. It leaves the main pipe at 90 degrees before bending upwards to the vertical. It has a stop-cock of its own, and turning this appears to do nothing. It is clearer in the picture...

Stop sink overflow pipe trapping water and getting smelly

Thanks. Although it seems to be holding water now I don't want to create problems for the future so I'll get some sealant on. Do you let the sealant dry in place before fitting the waste plate to the sink? Or tighten the fitting with wet sealant and then remove excess? Why is silicone...
