Level with the lawn or ever so slightly higher. Considering herringbone!

    Brick patio circle

Planning to dig a circle out of my lawn and lay a patio with reclaimed common clay bricks (flat all round). Will be filling with leveled compacted hardcore. I'm wondering if sand is ok as a bed or should I use mortar? I'd like to mortar between the bricks when done either way as I plan on having...

    Ikea complement/pax hinges?

Hi, I'm currently building and IKEA wardrobe. It has three sections and five doors. Unfortunately I forgot to pick up the hinges while I was in IKEA. I bought a pack of 20 Hafele hinges (645PH, Screwfix) to try. These are a great price for 20 and good quality. Unfortunately, even with the...

Finishing plaster going off in the bucket

I may be mixing it too much... I was told to aim for the consistency of yogurt. So I've been aiming for that

Finishing plaster going off in the bucket

It's been quite warm last couple of days which probably doesn't help. Everything is spotlessly clean, I've bought a couple of brand new flexible buckets for the job specifically. Thinking about ready mixed stuff. It's such a ball ache mixing it up just for it to go hard and the have to get it...

Finishing plaster going off in the bucket

I'm plastering my porch at the moment after boarding it out. I bought a speed skim which I got the first coat on with. I put the plaster on the wall with a roller (yes..YouTube ), it did the job. I found it was hard to get the plaster into the corners with this method. I also found the speedskim...

    Composite door pressure

It used to be an open porch when the house was built in the 50's but every house in the road now had out outer door fitted. The porch door would have been the front door originally. It was a top light and fan lights to the side but they're not openable. I will look into tricks vents. Cheers.

    Composite door pressure

Yeah, probably. I've been reluctant to start drilling holes it though. It isn't really solving the problem. I want to be able to just easily push it closed.

    Composite door pressure

Like hurts your fingers hard to open if the internal door is closed! It's only got a thumb turn lock tumbler to grip which doesn't help. I've thought about putting a pull knob on the inside which would help. It's been left open a couple of times (luckily we've been in the house) because you...

    Composite door pressure

I've recently fitted a composite front door replacing an old UPVC door. When my house was built, it had an open porch design, meaning my second internal door is actually where the front door would have been. The new composite external door opens and closes perfectly when the inner door is open...

    Composite door sill

Hi, I am replacing my old uPVC front door with a new composite door with a new frame. The old frame just sits straight on the floor but the new frame is different. I'm not sure if the new frame needs to sit ontop of a separate sill, or whether I can sit it directly onto the floor like the old...

    uPVC door frame

Looking for some info on adapting a composite door's uPVC frame. Basically I need a front door as my old uPVC door is knackered but in a tight budget. I've found a door which is an ex showroom display model which is ideal in width and also has a top light integral to the frame which I need...

    Angle grinder

I've got a Makita angle grinder, the spindle size is 1/2". I want to use it with some polishing pads (it has a low speed setting). All the hook and loop pads seem to be m14. For example...

    Alarm bell box squawking?

No, but it proves it was charged when it was removed? And it isn't having to do anything whilst in circuit (correct me if I'm wrong), isn't it just there as a backup incase of mains power failure so it still sounds/strobes?

    Alarm bell box squawking?

Just tested the battery, it's charged to 5.7v. it's a 6v battery. Had the system powered up without the battery for about an hour, still no squawking. Might put the battery back in tommorow and double check the terminals for tightness. 5.7v wouldn't suggest to me the battery was at fault

    Alarm bell box squawking?

Took the battery out of the bell box, it's stopped squawking. Ordered one to fit. Thanks for your help. Annoying how it only lasted 2 years though?

    Alarm bell box squawking?

That's what I was thinking. Unlikely but possible I suppose.

    Alarm bell box squawking?

Would it be worth removing the battery completely to see if it stops making the squawking sound intermittently?

    Alarm bell box squawking?

Hi, If I use the LCD keypad to manually sound the alarm, it sounds as normal. Which seems odd! I thought given the bad weather recently that water might have blown in. That's possible but it seems dry in there. I suppose it could have got wet and dried out but been left damaged.

    Alarm bell box squawking?

I have an Acenta G4 alarm panel with an 8EP42 type bell box. Recently the bell box has started making random squawking noises intermittently. Tried powering it completely down and re energising it. The sounder works in test mode and no faults are shown on the panel. I had a look inside today...
