Water collects in dishwaser when it is not in use - why and how to stop?

Well I moved the drain pipe so that it rises up to the bottom of the counter top, runs along there, then goes down to the drain connection. So far so good, but it has only been a few days during which the machine was used and so pumping out anyway. I'm pretty sure it is drain water collecting...

Water collects in dishwaser when it is not in use - why and how to stop?

Thanks for the replies. I will post a photo later. It's an Ikea drain with sink connected and below that the washing machine and dishwasher. I am pretty sure there are no non-return valves added to this. The drain did not go to the height of the top of the machine, it just left the dishwasher...

Water collects in dishwaser when it is not in use - why and how to stop?

We have an Ikea dishwasher which works fine in that it fills, cleans and drains. However, when it is not in use, every so often the base fills with water which I assume is drain water somehow getting back into it. In the hot summer this gets rather unpleasant. The dishwaser connects to a drain...

    How high should socket be

Makes sense now you say it, but I can't remember ever knocking anything over with the cord, well not yet anyway...

    How high should socket be

In some parts of Europe it is normal to have a socket under the light switch for a room (a sort of 2 gang vertical arrangement). It is not the prettiest thing to look at, but for hallways or bedrooms it is great for plugging in a vacuum (dare I say hoover) without needing to bend down, also good...

    German Lamp with Black/White wires

In pre harmonized German wiring black was live and blue was neutral (at least in the West). I don't think white was ever used (red as an earth sometimes, but that might have been stuff that came from the East). The lamp does seem to have US colours but that black used to be live in Germany may...

Old consumer unit , - what are my options to upgrade?

If you have not already done so, it might be an idea to check that each of those rewireable fuses has the correct size of fusewire in it. Also make sure you have some spare fuse wire. Remember to turn the main switch off before removing the fuses.

    Plugtop!

In my family, most of the older people refer to sockets as plugs, eg they would say 'The hotel room had about a dozen plugs in it, but none by the table, so I couldn't charge my phone without sitting it on the floor'. They do know the term socket but will only use it when it is needed to...

Why do new-build houses have bathroom / toilet light switches outside of room?

I've lived in 4 houses in mainland Europe and they all had the main lightswitch outside the bathroom door. All also had a 16A socket right next to the sink and some also next to the sink had a switch for the light above the mirror. However, the switch for the main bathroom light being outside...

Plastic bit on pull cord switches is for insulation/saftey reasons?

That's just over 10kg, most people who might get tangled in a hanging cord weigh quite a bit more than that.

Light not working after blown bulb replaced.

So had the owners asked for this (no nuisance tripping taking out many lights at the same time?) or had they been talked into it by someone who thought it was a good idea?

Metal adapter on radiator valve, is there a risk of corrosion?

I have some old danfoss radiator thermostats with an RA fitting which I would like to change for some with a timer. The new thermostats have the RAVL screw connector and came with a plastic adapter to attach over the RA valve. The plastic adapter is useless but on amazon and ebay there are...

    Vacuum cleaner permitted kW size?

My point exactly. Maybe we are talking about the same thing. 2kw ones generally don't die when they encounter something bigger than carpet dust.

    Vacuum cleaner permitted kW size?

If rubble is gravel, then yes. Also, motor lasts longer

    Vacuum cleaner permitted kW size?

I wondered why I couldn't find much over 1kw when looking recently. For the amount I vacuum, it will take many many years for the consumption difference between 1kw and 2kw be noticed.

Is this a normal 2-way switching setup in Germany?

OK thanks. I have never seen that in the UK. That lack of ability to add intermediate switches to it perhaps means it is only used in small rooms where extra switches are unlikely?

Is this a normal 2-way switching setup in Germany?

I was rewiring some 2 way light switches, they had previously worked as 2 way and then after someone else changed them (without writing what went where before removing the old ones) they worked as individual switches but not 2 way ones. I mapped out what went where: - a line/live connecting...

Thanks. I've now been able to test a selection of the ones that rattle and they do work :)

Fluorescent bulb rattles - is it dud?

I have a box of 25 T5 8W Fluorescent bulbs, of which over half rattle when turned longways. Could these work or are the ones with a rattle bound to be dud? Thanks
