I (foolishly) took the (Victorian) rim lock off our sitting-room door when decorating and it all fell apart. I now can't get it back together again. Inside there is a sort of 2 pronged propeller that turns on the handle spindle and it should strike a sprung strip- trouble is it doesn't now...

That sounds better. The order I quoted was just one I nicked from another website. So basically all prep then finish from top downwards.

I'm decorating our whole sitting room (which is v old and need a fair bit of filling etc), incl sanding/varnishing the floor (but only by hand as it's not too bad- no big electric sander)- I've got a rough order for the jobs but don't know when I should do the floor. At the start or at the...
