I'm decorating our whole sitting room (which is v old and need a fair bit of filling etc), incl sanding/varnishing the floor (but only by hand as it's not too bad- no big electric sander)-

I've got a rough order for the jobs but don't know when I should do the floor. At the start or at the end- or somepoint in between?

I'm also going to strip this beam above the fireplace (sort of at mantlepiece height)- when should I do that- due to inevitable drips and splashes?

Rough order without these jobs is:

Prep and paint ceiling and cornice
prep and paint woodwork (minus top coat)
Prep and paint walls
Final goat woodwork

Any ideas?
Thanks

Sounds about the right order.

Careful with that goat though, as you could end up with hairs everywhere.

Oh........ and sheet up well.

Thanks, Growler- but any ideas about when to tackle the floor and 'mantelpiece/beam thing'?

Confused...Why would you prep & paint, then move to the next and do prep & paint.

I would prep all, then clean down remove all dust, then do all the finishing.

As for the floor I would prep, & then cover & finish last

That sounds better.
The order I quoted was just one I nicked from another website.

So basically all prep then finish from top downwards.
