    Party Wall Notice required?

Sounds like I probably should have party wall agreement in place. I know someone is in the house occasionally so was going to drop a letter through first so I can hopefully discuss party wall etc before sending the notice. Least then they will know it's coming and hopefully respond to it in time.

Overhead telephone cable in way of extension

Will do anyway, just thought they may take a while to get back to me or charge to even have a look - thought someone here might have a rough idea what it could be. Because it would still be in the way of next doors first floor extension.

    Party Wall Notice required?

It's a mid 50s ex police house, but no idea of depth of founds although probably should get a spade out and check. No one has lived next door for the last 3 or 4 years - occasionally see light on in kitchen but never anyone around. They didn't object to our planning application so doubt...

    Party Wall Notice required?

We are intending building a single storey extension as highlighted red in the image below. This will not be on the boundary with our neighbour just slightly off. The party wall act seems to imply that a party wall notice is only needed if we are within 3m and will be excavating deeper than the...

Overhead telephone cable in way of extension

We are going to be building a first floor extension over our existing single storey kitchen (are highlighted blue in image) Currently our overhead telephone line cuts across this before joining the house (red line) It also cuts across our neighbours who intend doing the same/similar extension...

    Garden shed / DPM

Thanks, I was forgetting about any condensation between. I'll have a ventilated void under the floor anyway - perhaps chicken wire + dpc under the joists will do anyway and I'm worrying about mice etc too much!

    Garden shed / DPM

I'm looking to build a shed / workshop in the garden, but trying to do so out of as much free/upcycled materials as possible. Most of the timber I have is untreated and insulation is fibreglass and was wondering about dpm under floor. Timber used for the floor joists will need protecting from...

    Baxi 105e problems

Tried closing the left hand valve and the water still runs hot and cold, so must be the heat exchanger at fault. Thanks again

    Baxi 105e problems

Thanks for the reply. I presume a scaled dhw heat exchanger would need cleaning / descaling rather than replacing? What about the expansion vessel, is it most likely a case of pressurising it? or replacement? Are either likely to be a diy job? Thanks

    Baxi 105e problems

Hi, Just wondering if you could help with some problems we have with our boiler. It may be that I need to get a qualified plumber / heating engineer in, but if there’s something I can try first then I would rather do that. The boiler is a Baxi Combi 105e – it was in the house when we...

    dampness on internal wall

I think that there is some confusion (probably not helped by my long post) - it is not the walls which have recently been treated that are damp but one which was not treated. I have made a diagram with the information to try to clarify the situation. It is the wall highlighted in green which...

    dampness on internal wall

Hi first post here (although I've read quite a few others posts already) I know there are plenty of posts about damp but here goes anyway... (this will be a long post so please bear with me!..) We bought a 2 up 2 down mid terrace house coming up for 2 years ago. (room at the front, room...
