Underfloor Heating and Dry Mix Cement + Sand Question

Hi All, The situation so far: Kitchen 5m x 5m Suspended floors (5 ft). The beams are quite thin and had supporting wall 1/3 of the way from one end so quite a lot of deflection. So, we went under the floor and built a wooden frame to support the 2/3 of the remaining beams. Also added...

Advice needed on how to complete Under floor heating install

Hi, even if the pipe was right up to the plywood, it would still only be touching it with a tiny section of the cicular pipe. Most installs i have seen have a gap between the pipes and the boards but they are normally filled. I just want to know if its worth filling the gap with sand and cement...

Advice needed on how to complete Under floor heating install

We have a wet system installed between our suspended wooden beames. The installers placed reflective insulation and the plastic pipes over the insulation and boarded everything back with the old boards. Due to the state of the boards, i want to replace them with 18mm plywood and tile. I would...

    Cheeky wooden floor install...

Thanks Woody! I have just returned from the shop and unlike what i told you earlier, the base is in fact what looks like chipboard. Is it still recommended to put some of that foam undelay down first? I am still tempted to try and fit the floor without any glue. I think i might put 5 or 6...

WoodYouLike and other flooring experts - Need some advice

One last question. If we decide to lay the floor along the length of the room which is the same way the current pine floorboards go, would that be ok to do if i use fibre boards? I presume that using Timbermate Duratex is a no no in this case but thinking as fibre boards are more solid they...

WoodYouLike and other flooring experts - Need some advice

Thanks WoodYouLike. There is only 2 or 3 short planks in a single pack so the length is not a problem. The width is identical in the two packs i checked. Would you say 15mm gap on each side of the widest room is ok? or should i chisel a bit more to be on the safe side? I am thinking that...

Hi WoodYouLike. Been trying to catch your attention with not much luck. (sniff sniff ;) ) Subfloor: Pine Wooden floor (30 years old). MC of 13% - 15% but very few boards at 17% (no idea why but could be to do with the plastering we did 3 weeks ago and the removal of the radiators). I will...

Solid oak flooring on top of wooden floorboards (floating?)

Thanks. The strange thing is that one of the pine floorboards can be 16% while the one right next to it reads 13%. I just found one that was as high as 18%. These are really old boards (about 30 years old). Just as a note, we have had the walls re-plastered about 3 weeks ago now and all the...

Solid oak flooring on top of wooden floorboards (floating?)

Hi WoodYouLike. May i ask why not use combined DPM/foam type underlay? Is it just because it is not needed or is there a reason you must not do that? I ask as our floorboards are above the garage and using a moisture meter they are currently at around 15 - 16 % MC

    Solid Wood Floor Underlay

Sorry to bring this back from the depths of time... but thought I might as well keep this here. I am about to lay down a wooden floor.(18mm thick, 12cm wide and 80cm long planks of acacia wood) It will be going on top of pine floorboards. The whole room is above our garage. The pine...

    1. Two pipes coming out from the boiler. Only one has the pump attached. So i think your guess at gravity HW and pumped CH is correct. If this is a 'normal' thing then thats fine. Just wanted to really make sure that i can start laying the floorboards and new wooden floor down. I was realy...
