    doweling boards together?

Hand made furniture are works of art. I wonder if eventually all these skills will disappear? I could quite happily fill my house with old hand made furniture. A couple of high back chairs caught my eye last week but I resisted buying them.

    doweling boards together?

Hi all, lots of useful info again, many thanks. I'm using the boards together to make a small corner shelf unit. That ebook is really good. I see old furniture and sometimes I think how in the heck did they do that! Some really nice old furniture around.

    doweling boards together?

Hi and thanks. The boards are curved before I clamp. Battens and G clamps sound a good idea to keep things flat. I thought this might be a cheaper option than buying wider boards. I'll use more clamps and see what happens.

    doweling boards together?

Hi, I've used a doweling jig to join 3 pieces of 6x1 together to try and make one single board. I've tried it twice now and each time the joined pieces form a curved single board. Not a massive curve but it certainly isn't as flat as I had hoped. Is this always likely to happen or am I doing...

    spruce for indoor furniture?

thanks burnerman. I've looked a bit more on the internet and it looks as if like you say, spruce wouldn't be too good for what I have planned. Reclaimed oak floorboards would be ideal but the only way I think I could get hold of some is through ebay.

    spruce for indoor furniture?

Hi, I have been using pine from my local diy store for my kitchen projects. But now I want to put together a chest to use like a coffee table in the living room. They seem quite fashionable at the moment. I've seen some nice one's in an antique type shop made from reclaimed oak. I can't find any...

    base cabinets

Don't you ever buy lengths of dowel and cut them to size? I spotted lengths of 6mm but perhaps 8 and 10mm lengths are more difficult to buy so you have to buy them ready cut, more expensive?

    base cabinets

Yes, the yankee workshop. And boy, does he have a well kitted workshop! On one program he say's the project will only need 3 main power tools to complete, then he uses around another 6 non main power tools!!! Some interesting stuff though, glad I watched. Dowels will be my main method at the...

    base cabinets

There might be good tips on how to make cabinets on a woodworking program that is being shown all day on the Shed channel. One or two of the programs are about cabinet making.

    waterproof render?

Hi, yes all of the building is accessible. The outside has been painted in a coat of textured external paint. This has bubbled and cracked and that's how water finds it's way onto the thin render and through the wall.

    base cabinets

That sounds interesting as the back of my shelving unit, which will be placed on the wall above the proposed base unit, is rebated and has t&g. Your plan could match. So are you saying your sides are double t&g thick?

    waterproof render?

Hi, after moving into our new house I thought I had inherited quite a nice workshed. Breeze block built, felt roofed, rendered and external paint. I've been doing my woodworking projects in there. The trouble is, this weeks horrendous weather, rain rain and more rain and driving gales have been...

    base cabinets

thanks again. I've checked for books online and I guess it's pot luck as to if they will be helpful or not. A few bit on youtube that are helpful. I've been doing okay with my dowel jig so whatever I do I will be using that. Unless I can find a way of making mortice and tenons with my 1/4"...

    base cabinets

thanks gregers. I used quite cheap bits of pine for my shelving unit. For a base kitchen unit what type/s of wood do you use for each bit? I'm not working from any plans and I have just a 2 draw, 2 door idea in my head. Any tips when it comes to making cabinets?

    base cabinets

Hi all. I have finished my second project, open kitchen shelving unit with 3 drawers and now want to move on. Underneath this unit I would like to put together a base cabinet, 2 doors and 2 drawers I think, or perhaps a row of baskets instead of one of the doors? with a nice top. Would you guys...
