The bad news is that the camera has now gone on the blink... The good news is that VanSolo is 'The Man.' He sent me some of the ceramic holders which I have duly replaced and the problem seems to be fixed. The kitchen is now lit up like a landing strip. Not only is the wife my friend again...

Nice one VS. I have asked you to be my 'friend' and put my email address in my profile as suggested. The incoming cable (in white) is straight from the transformer. This particular light has its own transformer and so I presume the others do too...

Thanks for all your replies. The wife would kill me if she thought we had 'cheap' fittings!! :wink: I may have misled you when I said the ceramic holders were an integral part of the fitting. They do just hang down on wires but I couldn't see how they could be removed from the whole thing...

About 18 months ago my house was rewired and the wife insisted that we had 8 downlighters installed in the kitchen. They are low voltage. The job was done professionally but over a period of time each one of the lights stopped working. If a bulb is removed it can be replaced a few seconds...
