    Replace this Stop Cock

This is my Mains stopcock - it is siezed up and has been for a number of years I'd say (there is another fitted just beyond it in the 15mm pipework). I would like to replace this one, so that I only have one. Can somebody please identify what exactly I need and any advice? (aware I could call a...

    Celeb Come Dancing

Does anyone understand the scoring system? I don't We are told the phone in voting is 50% of the vote - the one with the highest votes gets 4 points (tonight) down to 1 point for the lowest votes. If the judges vote puts the lowest points down at 42 and the next lowest is at 53 say (can't...

    SCART connections

I was thinking of posting something very similar to this myself - only never got round to it... I have the same components by the look of it, but I don't really have problems as such - just want more. I would like to be able to record DVD to VCR and VCR to DVD too. What Scart connections...

    Today's Posts

Would it be better to utilise a rolling day? It's a bit frustrating when browsing the posts and select "Today's posts" when they all disappear at midnight. :(

    A new law

Thanks Pipme - exciting read that - yawn!!! much too much to read at this time of night. And too much legal gobbledigook. I did have a glance through. Does it actually say you must switch the lights on at night? All the bits I read referred to lamps being 'capable of being seen...

One-off noise when taps turned off

Also get a 'clunk' from time to time - but only when the water pressure is high (early morning for example). I believe it is due to the sudden cut-off of water escape when the tap (or whatever) is turned off causing the supply pipe to 'whip'. Maybe wrong, but that's what I think. Hasn't caused...

    Ebay PayPal

I kind of agree Kendor - no money to be lost - maybe an argument if the cheque doesn't arrive but the buyer insists it was sent. I have only bought from ebay using paypal and never had any problem - my son sells and buys lots (and lots and...) and I think only had problems with one buyer not...

    identifying a caller!

With BT. Had some problems a couple of years ago now I think with withheld numbers. My logic says "why would someone withhold their number before ringing me?" - "If it is someone who wants to talk to me then they wouldn't withhold the number unless there was something dodgy". Anyway I just...

    Leak between bath and taps

What is everything? You could first just try taking the bath panel off and use a tap spanner to tighten the tap nuts - might work :) What I do after doing any plumbing joints etc is to thoroughly wipe the area with kitchen towel and then wait a few minutes (assuming there is not a torrent...

creda 1000 washing machine - no spin

Anyone know why my Creda washing machine won't spin? it does everything else in the wash cycles, just no spin. Recently had a new motor (and brushes) so not that. It is insured with MasterCare. Called today (Wednesday) - they can come next Tuesday.

    Using Spybot S&D

Have used both SpyBot and Ad-aware. Started to a while ago when my son got 'Blaster' on his PC - system blacking out and turning off. Downloaded SpyBot and ran - didn't make any difference. Did same with Ad-aware and all fixed. Seems you need both - hopefully between them they find everything.

What loft insulation to use for spotlights?

I have spotlight eyeballs in my bathroom ceiling - R63 - and I have fibre glass insulation in the loft - BUT I have pulled it back from the lights leaving about a two foot circle. Been like that for about 5 years or more with no problem. I did think about placing a large lagged 'box' over...

    syphoning problem?

take a look at the outside gulley or drain-pipe - is it blocked? If the waste pipe end is submerged it makes 'gurgling' noises as and when air can get into the flow. Could also be partially blocked pipe - try plunger on it, or Mr Muscle.

    Tiling on tiles.

Of course, at some time you have to stop this practice - otherwise you can't get into the room - it being only 1 foot by 1 foot!! It's ok normally, if all existing is sound.

    woman in need of advice

What do you mean there is only one set of wires? You have bought a 45amp pull cord for the ceiling - BUT YOU CANNOT wire your Electric shower to the lighting circuit. Was there already an electric shower where your new one is? If so, you need to trace the wire from that to a point where you...

    Definition of "three core"?

well three core is just that - three cables within an outer sheath. T&E (Twin and Earth) is two cables plus an earth within an outer sheath. Three Core and Earth is what is normally meant - three cables plus earth within an outer sheath. I suppose it depends upon where you heard the...

    Cutting tiles

I have a watercooled tilesaw (well I used to have - i think my son has it now) and I found it great for 'L' shapes and the like. It did spray water about, but just put a plastic sheet down and a dust-sheet on top of that. For other 'odd' shapes I progreesed onto 'nibbling' - broke a few to...

    washing machine tripping the electricity

Funny you should ask - my Creda did exactly that a few weeks back. I had just (couple of days) replaced the CU with a split load. At work and get a call from my lovely wife saying all electric had gone off. assertained that the RCD had tripped and kept doing every time she tried to reset...

    Fitting a bathroom suite

Just used my first push-fit connectors for my tap tails. Was hopeful, yet sceptical - what if they leak? - how would I tighten them? However, I cut the existing pipe with a new-found ratchet pipe-cutter, cleaned the pipe (thumb over hole), pushed on the fitting, slight tug to ensure all ok...
