Radiators not getting heated up random problem

it won't be your stat as it is obviously working, it's just the valve is not opening properley as seco said. if the stat was at fault, the HTG would not be calling at all or turning off at all.

    Immersion Heater - no voltage...

I have no power to an electric immersion heater (the switched connection unit next to the heater in my bathroom). I tested the back of the socket/unit with my multi meter on AC and with the switch on, there was no voltage. so i am presuming the problem lies at the Consumer Unit...

Cold radiators - help i'm fricking freezing

have you had any work to the rads/system done since the heating was last on?

    Blocked Cold Feed questions.....

ok thanks for helping me seco services. yes you are right about the height of the pump/hw cylinder. i suppose a magnet attaching to copper pipe is sign/way to check also.i suppose the pump will seize / burn out due to firing with lack of / no water in pipe/circuit?!

    Blocked Cold Feed questions.....

i don't have a blocked feed at the moment (touch wood) i was just reading through and trying to learn and got a bit confused with all the solutions, etc. Some of the posts on here said the height of the F & E may make a difference, ... but how come with a blocked cold feed you can get hot...

    Blocked Cold Feed questions.....

blocked cold feed - after reading the FAQs and from what I know already - if when venting radiators (usually top floor/higher ones) water doesn't come out with any force - and can also be dark in colour and thickish. But does the F & E cistern height have anything to do with this .... and is...

    noisey boiler

if one of your 2 port valves are "stuck shut" - and sending power to the pump and boiler then this would explain for them being constantly on - but this shouldn't make the boiler overheat as the stat (boiler) should cut out when satisfied. dont know why water is pumping over though.. could be...

    Faulty Mid Position Actuator?

the valve if jammed, when reset may spring back, but then this will only probably be a temporary measure.

    Faulty Mid Position Actuator?

this is very strange. is it a digital thermostat? or a normal dial type one?

    Faulty Mid Position Actuator?

your room thermostat is permanently on and calling do you say? what setting is it at? this could be keeping your 3 port valve open to the htg circuit.

I have de-sludged and drained down, and still have cold rads

your auto bypass valve (stopcock looking lever that you said) may not be set correctly and the water not getting to your affected rad(s). it may be taking a short circuit (easier for it, less resistnace, etc). maybe your cold feed tee piece is slightly blocked up, forcing water up and over...

    Faulty Mid Position Actuator?

i can help you here after my recent posts!!! :) with the hot water on only, resistance should be felt when moving the manual lever over - so it seems to me that the valve did not close fully, and in fact is still open to the heating circuit (letting by). i know this is a common cause, and i...

Motorised Valve. Strange, 2 problems in 1?

GOT IT NOW! thanks a lot. sorry for keep going on about it, it just interests me! :) anyway, ive also worked out!... that if hw and htg are both satisfied at the same time (v unlikely but still) then the valve will be de-energised and return to its relaxed position (hw port open and no power...

Motorised Valve. Strange, 2 problems in 1?

sorry folks i am annoying i know - i am just trying to master the 3 port mid!! :) on top of my above post-am i correct in thinking that the GREY wire is LIVE when both hw and htg are also both off at the programmer? (as cyl stat not calling for heat) and the reason why the orange has...

Motorised Valve. Strange, 2 problems in 1?

yes i understand that, but if this is the case then, why does the orange wire need 100 or so volts to it, if GREY is 230v live when hw goes off last and valve is held in its last position, ie heating only and basically when htg is off last, the valve has 230 volts on grey and 100 approx on...

Motorised Valve. Strange, 2 problems in 1?

hi again - a few days later!! well anyway thanks for the link on how a 3 port mid position valve works - i have been looking at it a lot to learn :D there is just 1 slight thing i would like clarification on :) if i may ... when htg is last to go off (be satisifed), and...

Motorised Valve. Strange, 2 problems in 1?

ok fair enough. from that conclusion i believe the 1 loose wire contributed to both problems!!!! and i was go out and buy a new actuator head - lucky i didn't now!!! thanks for the link by the way - read it and one thing i would like to question: it says when heating is satisfied, from the...

Motorised Valve. Strange, 2 problems in 1?

why would hw off wire from the programmer have an affect on the heating not going on?! i am confused nw?!! :)
