Can mould grow underneath gloss paint?

I scraped a bathroom ceiling covered in mould recently. After spraying with white vinegar to kill the mould I used Zinnsers anti mould paint. That's what I did anyway.

    Exterior painting in cold weather

Well the wood was rotten (only just noticed) so I stripped the loose paint and put on some wood hardener. It doesn't look too great and the house is probably going to have a lot of visitors soon (after a funeral if you must know :( ) So I'm under pressure to make it tidier.

Can mould grow underneath gloss paint?

A damp course doesn't fix everything. Is the room cold/humid in the winter? Water vapour easily condenses on a cold wall.

    Exterior painting in cold weather

Hi. Is there a paint for exterior wood that will dry properly in cold weather such as the 5 or 6 degrees centigrade we're getting at the moment?

    What to do with mold

It doesn't matter how moist the air is if it's not condensing much on the walls. In the summer the air is at its most moist but you can leave your window open in the bathroom all the time in that season. It doesn't matter. In the winter with cold bathroom walls in a poorly heated bathroom the...

    Quote to fit extractor fan

The bathroom is in a single storey extension to a terrace house, added I think in the fifties. I doubt it's got a cavity at a guess.

    Quote to fit extractor fan

The bathroom is in a house that is permanently let out and I'm afraid I don't know as much as I should about how the house's electrics are set up. I've owned it since 1985 and the house has had nothing major done on it electrically in that time. I've a feeling - having just 'educated' myself...

    Quote to fit extractor fan

I have a quote to fit an extractor fan in the bathroom. I was told that I'd probably need an "upgrade to the existing consumer unit or at the least a separate RCD protected supply". All this was due to "new regulations". The cost for materials and labour is £350+ VAT. Is this reasonable? I...

    What to do with mold

The wall being too cold is very often why you get mould. Is the room warm enough? I just spent a couple of days getting rid of mould from a bathroom and painting with anti-mould treatment. It's in a house that has been rented out for years. I never had a problem till this current tenant. It's...

    Dumb question about masonry drills

I've found a lot from some googling but could someone explain how masonry screws mesh with brick? Wood yes I get that but why isn't brickwork too hard for a screw to mesh into?

    Dumb question about masonry drills

Hi. (Please bear in mind this is a DIY ignoramus typing this.) I'm trying to put back shelves that a previous owner put up. They've finally come down I'm guessing because he didn't use wall plugs. I drilled a new hole but didn't get far before no progress. This will be the brickwork...

    Buying the right taps online

On the pipework I've got 17mm measuring on the outside diameter of the main pipe (the part that's not the old tap). So at that end the connector will be the 15mm you mentioned? Pipework only comes in 2 diameters?

    Buying the right taps online

I'm thinking of buying these types from an online seller. Can you tell me what 1/2 BSP means? It's not half an inch is it? That seems very small for the pipe going into the tap. ( very amateur DIYer )

Is this British Gas quote reasonable?

Well it's what me old mum asked for and she didn't say anything about wanting new fires to me so just decommissioning I think.

Is this British Gas quote reasonable?

I've got some more details. One is Glow-worm "Back boiler" The other is Potterton "Back boiler".

Is this British Gas quote reasonable?

Both are condensing boilers. There are 2 hot water cylinders in the house. Is that what you need to know? Both are behind gas fires - if that's relevant.

Is this British Gas quote reasonable?

Hi. My mother wants to get a new CH boiler. Although the old CH boiler in question is still going strong she's been told that soon BG repair engineers may "not be able to get the parts for it." Another thing to add is that in the set up for her house there are 2 boilers hooked up to 2...

    No lockshield valve?

Fooling around with the lockshield valve on other radiators I'm now getting some heat into my previously cold radiator. How am I managing this when the radiator's left-hand (lockshield?) valve is turned hard to the right and needs to stay that way or it will leak? Shouldn't that stop all heat...

    No lockshield valve?

What sort of valve is the one on the left please? This is the upstairs radiator I can't get much heat into. Any turn at all anti-clockwise of the left-hand valve produces a leak. It is tight as it can go clockwise. I'm guessing it's not really a valve at all. It's function?
