Hi.

Is there a paint for exterior wood that will dry properly in cold weather such as the 5 or 6 degrees centigrade we're getting at the moment?

What's the rush? Leaver it until it warms up.

Well the wood was rotten (only just noticed) so I stripped the loose paint and put on some wood hardener. It doesn't look too great and the house is probably going to have a lot of visitors soon (after a funeral if you must know :( ) So I'm under pressure to make it tidier.

It's not actually that cold at the moment so you use something like Crown Solo. I used it a few back when it was much colder and it dried fine. (They are selling the house and wanted a pretty up).

Thixotropic gloss is not affected as much by cold weather as liquid gloss so I'd go with that and oil based undercoat.
