    damp plaster smell?

Hi All, Just to let you know, I've kept up with the dehumidifier with the window open very slightly and a plug in air freshener! Plus I scrapped as much of the damp paint of as possible and much to my delight.... The smell is no more! Don't you just love a happy ending! :mrgreen...

    damp plaster smell?

Thanks roughcaster, I'll keep at it and see what happens, I opened the skylight vent earlier tonight (daren't open the window too much in case it rains). I've also left the door open at the bottom of the attic stairs so more air should be circulating up there, I'm guessing that will help...

    damp plaster smell?

Hi, as far as I know there's no plaster board in the room. Its an old house and has been skimmed over but I believe its all original plaster under there somewhere. Am I right in thinking that plasterboard wasn't used way back when.... (please excuse my ignorance) I do know when I had the re...

    damp plaster smell?

Hi, I've recently been having problems with damp coming into my attic bedroom due to roof problems. I've now had a new roof and have been using a dehumidifier to draw the damp out before attempting to re decorate. I have been told by a plasterer that the old plaster should be ok and not...

    Roofing/scaffolding

Hi All, I'm trying to find a builder to fix my roof which is leaking/getting damp around the chimney breast in my attic bedroom. I've had a pretty reasonable quote from a local (ish) builder but they apparently won't be using scaffolding. Now this is a big bonus for me as I know the...

Lol, yeah I guess another cat would be the easier option..... Problem is, I seem to have changed from a cat person to a dog person and don't really want one! :) I'm going to ask around people I know, somebody somewhere must know somebody who works with or knows about these things...

Want new bottom panel for double glazed door???

I think I know what you mean.... and yeah, I think have a middle bit, midrail, centre mullion! lol. I've got two long glass panels on the top and the frame round them, the frame round the main door and the bit between the glass looks to be all one piece. Just the bottom panel is different! I do...

Want new bottom panel for double glazed door???

Thanks for your replies. I think my first step will be to go to a local supplier (there are two in the area but one for sure is quite large and I should imagine their prices will reflect that) If they then want ME to measure up I will have to have a go I guess :? Even though I would like...

Want new bottom panel for double glazed door???

Hi All, I currently have a cat flap in my back door but.... As I no longer have a cat, would like to replace the panel for a solid one! I haven't got a clue even where to start looking for a new panel as internet serches only seem to bring up the standard double glazing companies. The...

Space to fit a new gas cooker!

Ok, Call me dim but now I'm even more confused than ever! :? I no nothing about gas, fitting or otherwise. But, I do know it is dangerous if not done right! Think what I'm going to have to do is get a corgi registered gas plumber round to look at my specific situation and see what he...

Space to fit a new gas cooker!

Just to let people know. I found out that minimum distance from the top of a gas cooker to whatever is above it is: 750mm for an extractor fan or 600mm for wall units This means I can have a new gas cooker fitted by a corgi registered fitter. He does advise that the cupboard goes...

Space to fit a new gas cooker!

It is a bayonet fitting but I thought it wasn't good practice to fit things like this yourself? I'd rather be safe than sorry especially as I rent a room out in my house so all the appliances are shared! I know people who aren't corgi that would fit it for me but I don't know what or how...

Space to fit a new gas cooker!

Hi all, I'm just in the process of buying new appliances for my kitchen and have a question that needs answering before I can choose my new cooker  I already have a gas cooker which has been installed for years (by a qualified gas fitter at the time) While looking into buying my...
