RCD trips when back of fridge touches copper CH pipes

Thank you for your replies. I think I will call a local electrician first to investigate the wiring and pipes, especially if it is a problem that may affect other areas of the house. It may still turn out to be the appliance but 2 faults in a fairly new appliance seems odd. I will report back...

RCD trips when back of fridge touches copper CH pipes

I'm not sure. As far as I'm aware the earthing to the appliance is fine. If there were an issue with the earthing in the ring main, would it earth to the pipes behind? The obvious answer is yes I suppose but why would that, on its own, cause the RCD to trip?

RCD trips when back of fridge touches copper CH pipes

Hoping for a bit of advice please so I can call the right person to fix a problem. RCD tripped overnight and have isolated the cause to be when the back of the fridge freezer touches the copper central heating pipes that run behind it. This is because it only happens when the fridge is pushed...

Karndean in shower/wet room peeling away from the wall

We have a walk in shower in our downstairs bathroom where I believe the flooring is Karndean. Where the flooring meets the wall it goes up the wall about 10cm so as to create a sort of tray. However it is starting to peel away from the wall in places. Please could someone advise the best...

    Loft boarding advice

That does make sense - thanks. I will be using 1220mm loft boards so 400mm spacing between the new joists will be fine. Given that it is a loft floor, will 600mm spacing be alright? That way I can stagger the joins in the loft boards in each row (if that makes sense?) and save myself a bit of...

    Loft boarding advice

Thanks for that - your suggestion makes much more sense than what I was orginally thinking lol. I will have a look up there one night this week and measure up to work out how much timber I will need to buy.

    Loft boarding advice

I intend to board a small area of my loft to provide additional storage space at home. As there is already around 30cm of insulation up there, I will need to build some sort of suspended floor frame on which to fix loft boards. What size and grade timber is required for such an application -...

    Sterling 10 Blank Keypad

I've checked the fuses and one was blown. Replaced blown fused and keypad now working again. I've also managed to reprogram it to allow it to be set without the kitchen so we can still have the alarm on when we're out and shut the cats in the kitchen. Many thanks to all who helped.

    Sterling 10 Blank Keypad

OK, thanks for your help. I will check the fuses at the main panel and see if any have blown and replace if so. Just to clear up any confusion, I disconnected the wires at the keypad end of the run, not at the main panel which remained connected so a short could have happened at some stage...

    Sterling 10 Blank Keypad

They may well have done, but it would have been after the keypad had been disconnected. Could it have caused a problem at the main panel end of the system? Incidentally, there is clearly still power getting to the keypad as when I took the front of it off again this afternoon it triggered the...

    Sterling 10 Blank Keypad

We have a Pyronix Sterling 10 alarm system installed at home with sensors for the downstairs rooms, door sensors and a single LCD type keypad. As part of our downstairs hallway renovations, I disconnected the keypad from the system so that the cable linking it to the main alarm could be buried...

    Fixing DPM to wall

The room is a small front extension that a previous owner had built around 25 years ago. It's a little on the cold side so I'm spending the Christmas holiday sorting it all out and redecorating, new wood floor etc. Just seems to be a total minefield when it comes to what products to buy, how...

    Fixing DPM to wall

OK - so no DPM, just studwork fixed to wall and then vapour barrier over the top prior to plaster board or simply foil backed plasterboard. I'm in two minds at the moment whether to fit something like Celotex PIR board between the studs and then plasterboard over the top, or to leave the gaps...

    Fixing DPM to wall

What is the best way of fixing a DPM to a masonry wall to ensure the membrane is not compromised? I need to fix one to a single skin masonry wall prior to fixing timber studwork and need to know the most sensible way of A) Fixing the membrane to the wall and B) fixing the timber studwork to...

    Insulating a single brick porch

I did indeed pay for a house buyers survey as the property is 1930s and we wanted to know everything that might be at fault internally. For example, they pointed out the old consumer unit which we have now replaced. I will contact the surveyors and our local planning office. Many thanks for...

    Insulating a single brick porch

Having spoken to our neighbours who have been in the property for 50+ years, I have been told that the porch has been there for 20 odd years but I have no idea whether they would have applied for planning permission - apparently our neighbour's porch was built by the same person but they have...

    Insulating a single brick porch

It's built on to the front of the house with it's own roof (I will need to investigate into the ceiling void to see if there's any insulation up there but I'm betting there isn't. The roof itself it pitched and slate tiled, and drains via its own guttering. I am unsure when exactly it was...

    Insulating a single brick porch

Thank you for letting me know. That's rather alarming as the house was bought in July last year and it didn't come up in the survey. If we fully insulate it as we are planning to do, would that bring it in line with the building regs? The other solution would obviously be to fit an external...

    Insulating a single brick porch

Hope one of you knowledgable guys on here can help me. The previous owners of our house built a small porch on to the front of the house to extend the small downstairs hallway. The porch itself is roughly 2x1m and there is no door between it and the downstairs hall (previous front door has been...

    Lamp fixture help!

£50 for a light bulb with some coloured flex  And yes, it's a pendant light - it's not really designed to be plugged into a wall socket.
