    Cracked slate

Woke up to find a slate hanging in gutter and several out of position near ridge. What's the likely cost? As the weather was quite mild the insurance are not interested. Can I make them initiate a third party claim?

Add RDC to split load CU

Thanks Frodo. Guess that's the way to go. But ignoring convenience and cost, I still don't understand how I determine whether specific rcd characteristics are required for different appliances.

Add RDC to split load CU

Thanks for so much info; it is what it is and has not been altered to bypass a known fault. All is working Can 8I conclude that it would be a beneficial change so long as an RCD could be sourced, cheaply and that both old mechanical control working and modern computer electronic type...

Add RDC to split load CU

Don't think so. It was a new build around 2000. I thought this was a common set up in those days, with only sockets likely to be accessed by "outside" equipment put on the RCD.

Add RDC to split load CU

Adding an RCD to cover the non-protected circuits looks a fairly easy conversion. That side includes sockets for a fridge, a freezer, washing machine, dryer and a dishwasher. Presumably they were non RCD protected to avoid tripping from motor start up. Is there a means to check if the present...

    Barmy customers.

100 is not a very high IQ achievment. You could be a gas engineer with a customer who was concerned about gas leaking out when removing a radiator.

    Monobloc tap--dual pressure supply

I want to fit a small cloakroom basin with a single lever monobloc tap but the hot supply is from a loft storage tank (5m head) and cold is direct mains 15mm so a dual flow would be suitable., but costly. Tap specifications/descriptions are variable , mostly incomplete and mainly gloss over this...

Indication of WC Cistern flush valve letting by.

Prompted only by the horror of a trebled water bill, I tracked the source down to a Geberit dual flush valve silicon/rubber seal washer that had deteriorated and become covered with "warts". (Not an uncommon problem! ) Isolating the WC, noting the dropped cistern water level later, and washer...

    Felt Lap Vents in Loft

Is there any advantage to using these mouldings instead of just inserting something (wood strip, pipe insulation, plastic pipe, etc) to separate the felt layers? Do they increase risk of insect access?

    Frozen Pop-Up

This is still not solved and I cannot get past the pop-up so can't continue into the forums. Others seem to be having problems also related to this pop-up.

    Frozen Pop-Up

Recently a green bordered "Privacy & Transparency" pop-up has appeared on opening DIY not forum. It does not respond to clicking on "Continue with recomended cookies" and no further progress is possible. I am using an old (V9) ipad for this purpose that has been OK previously, and an alternative...

Access to Paint fascia over porch

This should be a simple paint job, but how would you reach the fascias over the porch roof? The slope is uncomfortable to stand on, ladders will not angle over it and the roof is slate which could be troublesome. Is it OK to just stand on it (Rafters cannot be located) or are there any useful...

    Fitting Hot Tank Thermostat

Thanks, but that is not directly relevant to my problem and was never needed in the past. PS jeff's signature has nothing to do with this Tony !

    Fitting Hot Tank Thermostat

Fully accept that, but in this case a minute change in the the dial setting results in a scalding or totally lukewarm tap output change, so the sensitivity range would have to be vast. (The stat marked temp is not what I am working on.). If I set the stat at about 55c the water remains cool but...
