what ~50mm screed over a dpc?

Thanks Ree. An old blown air boiler has been removed. Underneath it there was ducting to the ground-floor of the house, all set into the concrete floor. The entrance to all the ducting has been filled up with bricks and concrete, leaving ~2 inches that needs sealing and levelling. My...

what ~50mm screed over a dpc?

Hi, I'm patching a 4'x4' section of a concrete floor. I'm patching new dpc to the old (trying to seal the edges). This will leave this dpc covered area ~50mm lower than the surrounding floor. Under the dpc is rough concrete. What can I patch the finished floor with? ~50mm thick, dpc...

    combi condensate through a trap?

He is registered. He's also 'taken' my copper hot water tank. Long story, but whilst he's left loads of other stuff (for me to remove and scrap) - the redundant hot water tank has gone. He isn't taking the header tank from the loft, that's down to me!

    combi condensate through a trap?

Hi Dan, thanks. You made me laugh, because he is an ar$e! He's done several other stupid things, whilst installing a full system.

    combi condensate through a trap?

Hi, Newly installed Worcester Bosch 38cdi combi boiler. I have the condensate pipe, and pressure relief pipes to connect to a drain. By chance, there is the end of a 110mm soil pipe in almost exactly the right place. My plumber has connected a single 40mm drain to take both the condensate...

    lifting 3x2 loose flags

At the very worst, you should only have to break up one of them- then use that space to lever others. What buts up against them? Can't you get at them from the edge? If they're laid that tightly, you'll never get a new one onto the gap.

    closing the cavity

Hi, I'm converting a window into French windows, and have cut down and removed the surplus brickwork. The French doors will fit into the outer skin, leaving a cavity before the inner skin. We'd like to finish the floor right up to the French windows, across the cavity. How do I close the...

    Velux windows leaking after installation

Did you see them installing the windows? and do you know what parts they used? There are many 'accessory' parts that are kind of optional (not included with either the window or flashing kits), eg the underfelt collar...

Lead Flashing on Double Roman Tiles

Hi all, I'm about to do the same, namely 'dress' lead that's fixed in the wall, onto double romans. The only other time I've attempted it, the sheet bent like a banana - as the lead went into the valleys of the double romans. This time, the lead is well fixed into the brickwork. Before I...

Stripped pine bannister - wax it? oil? ...varnish??

Thanks for that, I think I agree. Would a paint on wax give a finish suitable for kiddies fingermarks, or hanging washing on? ps. Happy New Year!

Stripped pine bannister - wax it? oil? ...varnish??

Just read a little about this, sound... ok. Couple of questions. Do you think our kids fingerprints (and possible mess!) would wipe off ok? Also, across the landing, we sometimes hand washing to dry over the banister - would it be likely to mark moist washing? Ta!

Stripped pine bannister - wax it? oil? ...varnish??

Hi all, We've stripped/sanded our stair bannister (hand-rails, uprights etc) back to bare pine. It's been previously painted, and it's ~35 years old. The finish now is sanded down, and it's a darkish pine colour purely due to its age. We like the natural wood, and want to finish it with a...

New water main to increase pressure/flow

Wow! some really knowledgeable replies, thanks! Hugh, it sounds like you've laid new water-mains. I read your post with interest. dumbrill, ta for the pressure drop info - probably the key to what I was asking about. As I use Linux, I didn't download the calculator - will nab wifeys...

New water main to increase pressure/flow

Thanks for your "concise" reply, raises a few more questions tho'! Pipe diameter doesn't affect "static" water pressure, but dynamic pressure (once a tap is on) is reduced, isn't it? United Utilities will connect my new pipe for free, so it's not down to what I pay them. As the street...

New water main to increase pressure/flow

Hi all, Water pressure and flow rate are not brilliant, British Gas said the flow is too low for a combi-boiler. So I fancy replacing the very old (not lead) water main with 25mm or 32mm mdpe. I know all the caveats, 750mm deep, lined with sand, keep the trench open until inspected etc. Few...

T4 or T5 fluorescent link lights - confused!

Thanks for all your replies, but it is still confusing. The £1.99 lamp page has the comment: These tubes are only recommended for use with our fittings. as lengths may vary between manufactures. Please check if buying for use with another fitting. Although they're really cheap, that's...

T4 or T5 fluorescent link lights - confused!

Having looked more closely at the links, this is a case in point. Both are T5 fluorescents, but: slim 6w/275mm 10w/243mm 16w/525mm other 6w/9"(228mm) 8w/12"(305mm) 15w/18"(457mm) etc All different sizes! so when I come to buy replacement tubes...

T4 or T5 fluorescent link lights - confused!

Thanks guys... Think I like the slim ones best, not least because they're cheap! Where are you from spark123? I'm in Carlisle (if you're in Carlisle - where's a good place to get 'em from?). Edmondsons (local retailer) wanted £66 for 4 smallish T4's... Ta!
