Headlines Six tumble dryer fires in seven weeks but what type?

I wasn't aware of not leaving washing machines or dishwashers unattended is this common practice? I often put the dishwasher on deliberately when we go out as I don't like the noise. Similarly, I don't like the noise of the washing machine but tend to be in as the clothes need to be taken out to...

Remove TRV head and use lockshield to manage the flow question.

Edited following rethink. Yes, definitely insulated. Unfortunately, we had issues with the roof leaking due to the low pitch being too low. We had it converted to a warm roof which has a large amount of insulation on it and there's the remainder of the existing insulation inside below the...

Remove TRV head and use lockshield to manage the flow question.

Thanks for the advice, I had considered a small usb powered fan for underneath the radiator, particularly this type as small form and hopefully not too noisy.

Remove TRV head and use lockshield to manage the flow question.

I'm not sure to be honest, it's about 180cm wide, 60cm tall and double thickness. It does get extremely hot and seems to lose little heat either end. The extension is reasonably sized, it also incorporates the small kitchen dining room so has a task on its hands. Part of the problem is the...

Remove TRV head and use lockshield to manage the flow question.

Thanks, but my thoughts are leaving it set to 5 was effectively leaving it open? I could hopefully just take off the head.

Remove TRV head and use lockshield to manage the flow question.

Thanks, the kitchen TRV is set to 5. The reasoning behind having the wireless thermostat in the kitchen was that it takes a long time to rise in temperature and maintain it, I thought it was better to do it that way. Also, I have set the overnight setting down to 14.5 degrees to protect the...

Remove TRV head and use lockshield to manage the flow question.

Thanks for the reply, I see your point and have upped the target temperature for the kitchen a little and will review.

For info, the thermostat is a Honeywell T6R.

Remove TRV head and use lockshield to manage the flow question.

Hi, We have TRV on every radiator in our house with the exception of the bathroom radiator. We have a wireless thermostat sat in kitchen extension as it's the (second) coldest room, the radiator TRV is set to 5. Every other room gets to temperature quickly, therefore the kitchen temperature...

How many lumens for a batten loft light?

We have a 4 foot old style tube light which had an approximate 32w fluorescent tube which I have replaced with an LED tube using 16W. It seems just as bright but the issue, as before, is the spread of light as it's centrally mounted, therefore working either end creates shadows. Depending on...

    Strange issue with door sensor

We had an issue with the front door sensor triggering the alarm on a couple of occasions, as if we had just opened the door and it went into the phase the panel tone countdown pre alarm. As it was early, I just put the code in and left it off. I had a visit from an alarm installer who traced...

    Programmer setting for system boiler

Thanks for the replies. The only reason I have replaced the programmer is because the display has failed, I hadn't removed it since I fitted it a replacement for the faulty mechanical Glowworm, probably in 2000. At the time, I would have puzzled over the dipswitch for gravity or fully pumped and...

    Programmer setting for system boiler

Hi JohnD, If I set it to gravity, the system will run correctly but HW needs to be enabled either in auto or manual on. If I turn CH and HW to Off on the programmer, then advance CH to either On or Auto, it will advance HW. I believe this is the feature of the gravity setting. I was exploring...

    Programmer setting for system boiler

Thanks for the replies, I will try and post a photo of the airing cupboard later. For info, the pump is in the boiler, the original was removed from the airing cupboard when the Remeha Avanta was installed. I've attached the programmer backplate which needed to be swapped as water ingress had...

    Programmer setting for system boiler

Update. I tried the fully pumped setting, CH set to manual on and HW on auto, ensuring that it was in an off timed status, as too early to enable a demand. As the mains power had been cut, the 3 port valve was sat in the HW mode. I set a demand temperature for the CH and the port only moved to...

    Programmer setting for system boiler

Thanks again. I will have another look at this, one thing I forgot to mention is that with this new programmer, setting the on, off, auto and once setting is within the menu setting rather than a hard button. I noticed that it has options to set the timer status for CH, HW and HW&CH. I'm not...

    Programmer setting for system boiler

Thanks for the reply, I will try it tomorrow. I wonder why I have been told that you can't set on CH without HW, I seem to remember setting CH to on would pull the HW on. Could that have been a limitation of the Glowworm timer?

    Programmer setting for system boiler

We live in a late 80s house which had a boiler with two tanks in the loft which topped up the radiators and the immersion heater. There was/is a 3 port valve next to the immersion heater which would actuate on demand. The programmer was a mechanical Glowworm which failed pretty much straight...

    Remeha Avanta 24s E5 issue..

Quick update... Turned the thermostat on the immersion heater down, noticed the port valve moved and the heating has been running again. I noticed yesterday that the boiler pressure seemed higher than normal, it's a little lower now and wonder if the 3 port valve is sticking causing flow issues.

    Remeha Avanta 24s E5 issue..

Good evening folks. This boiler is about 12 years old and has recently been displaying E5 error codes, pressing reset has got the boiler back into what I assume was running correctly but I suspect that in reality it has just been trying to fire up and recycling the water. After a while the...
