Boiler starting sometimes but not consistently

Thanks Madrab Not going to play around with it, as you say it needs someone who is qualified to do that stuff. I'll see if it keeps happening when it's hot to try and replicate the fault when someone comes in. If it is PCB and/or fan, roughly how much would I be looking at to fix? Thanks

Boiler starting sometimes but not consistently

Thanks both for the replies; Harry - when you say taking the PCB out, do you mean that this could be temporary eg when the wiring loom gets hot and so starts working again when it cools down? Thanks again

Boiler starting sometimes but not consistently

Hi all Just hoping that someone may know what's going on with my boiler/HW & CH heating. I have an Ideal classic HE, which is just over 14 years old. Last week it wasn't starting for some reason. All the links seem ok eg stat calls for heat, pump starts running so water is circulating through...

No heating but hot water fine Honeywell programmer?

Afternoon all Have been playing with the buttons on the programmer and if I turn the hw to off and the heating to on, the heating works!! I've also been reading that sometimes hw and heating together can be a problem with the Honeywell ST9400C so this may well be it. Anyone know if I leave it...

No heating but hot water fine Honeywell programmer?

Hello everyone I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me if my programmer or something else is at fault... Woke up this morning and radiators cold. Boiler and h/w working ok. Checked programmer (Honeywell ST9400C) and the heating had somehow turned itself off overnight. When I press the...

Megaflo unvented cylinder no hot water???

Hi all I have a Megaflo indirect unvented cylinder. HW has stopped getting hot-still get water from hot taps but it’s cold. Boiler (Ideal Classic HE) and CH work fine. Honeywell programmer-when HW is turned on the programmer used to make a clear click, now I can hardly hear it. 2...

    Sealed system losing pressure

I've had a look in some of the FAQs but didn't see anything about a PRV vent? Do I need to check the pipe which runs outside or is there a way to check the PRV itself? Many thanks

    Sealed system losing pressure

Hi all Just wondered if you had any thoughts regarding sealed ch system pressure loss? Have a basic boiler heating a Megaflo unvented cylinder and the radiators. Situation is that I need to top up the system every week or so because the pressure drops to 0.5 bar, so a leak somewhere I...

170 litre Megaflo unvented cylinder for a 2 bed house??

Hi I'd really appreciate any thoughts on this... Have a rubbish thermal store and developer is changing it to an unvented cylinder, making the boiler (Ideal Classic HE12) sealed system from open vented. Only thing is they are proposing a Megaflo CL170, which, according to the Heatrae...

    Noisy boiler

Hi The system is open vented so no pressure gauge, unless there is one that I don't know about? Thanks

    Noisy boiler

Hi I have an Ideal Classic Condensing boiler (HE12), which is making banging/popping sounds when it is firing. When it happens it makes the noise every 5-10 seconds, sometimes more loudly than at other times, although sometimes there are no noises at all when it is firing. The water has...

Radio interference when pump switches off

Thanks all for your ideas. Store is only 4months old and system had no sludge when it was installed so surely it can't be sludge? Plumber came and Ideal boiler is cutting out when flow is at 69 degrees acc to the digital thermometer...same prob I had on an Ideal classic SE a few years...

Radio interference when pump switches off

Hi again Well the electrician came and tested the pumps and the store thermostat and connections and could find nothing wrong. He also said that there wouldn't be arcing becuase the current is too low. I have no idea if this is true or not. Plumber is next to come and have a look. A...

Radio interference when pump switches off

Hi Tony Thanks again for the reply. By 'hysteresis' do you mean the differential? The stat on the thermal store has a differential of 6 degrees. Before the problem began the stat would click and turn the pump off at 75 degrees and turn the pump on again at 69 degrees. Now the pump just...

Radio interference when pump switches off

Thank you, the electrician is coming next week to have a look. I'm confused because the stat does switch, with the clicking sound, just at a lower temp than before. I guess this could mean that the boiler isn't heating the water to as high a temp as before, something I don't want to think...

Radio interference when pump switches off

Thanks for the replies, the latest is that the the pump is no longer switching off once the thermal store is up to temperature...could this mean that the stat/relay has failed or more worryingly a problem with the boiler itself? If I turn the stat temperature down manually the pump does switch...
