Check out my materials... tell me what to do with them. :)

This may not apply to the spackle you've got, but I tend to find that spackle is not dense enough for me to have much confidence in it. I'd still opt for a water or oil based wood filler. Nigel

Oh, one last thought: cheap brushes will probably frustrate you. They don't let paint flow nicely and they lose bristles at the worst possible moment. I'd be looking at the $10-20 range, plus a biggy sized container of mineral spirits for cleaning. And looking at your other questions, a...

Check out my materials... tell me what to do with them. :)

First, disclosure that may make you stop reading: I'm a working carpenter, not a painter. I have, however, finished a few things and am more than regularly called upon to swing a paintbrush. I would sand the cut edges of the mdf progressively up to around 400 grit. I've heard people suggest...

    framing square/stair gauges

Sorry that I'm late to this conversation, but I find the 2 strips of wood trick to be better than gauges. The reason is that you can lay out your top and bottom steps right to the bottom of the stringer. (With gauges, you need some waste material to rest them on.) Nigel

old ceiling - overboard, skim, replace or false ceiling?

You'll have a 'friend request' in your inbox, as I was trying to get in touch to offer my assistance on your project. (Hope that wasn't contrary to forum rules...) Nigel

    Routing a flat surface

Apologies if I'm not understanding properly, but what I'm interpreting is that you want to take 2" (50 mm) thickness off the wide face of a board with a really big router cutter. Is that correct? If so, a few things. - As noted, it's in your best interests (for all kinds of reasons) to take...
