    Shower

I don't think I'm going to attempt this, I was only asking as it seemed pretty straight forward once I'd pulled the main incoming fuse. I thought I could just replace the 10mm meter tails into a rcd shower protected unit and job done. With all this mention of henley blocks and putting new 25mm...

    Shower

The tails running from the meter to the shower supply are possibly 10mm, they are a lot smaller than the 25mm meter tails to the cu. I'm confused by newboys suggestion of how to do the job as the 10mm(I think) run straight from the meter to the shower supply. As the shower supply is 20+yrs old...

    Shower

When you say blocks, do you mean terminal blocks for 25mm cable, are they still plastic or special metal ones? I don't understand why I should run the new 25mm cable back to my cu as the supply for the shower is seperate and not having anything to do with my cu. The tails run from the meter into...

    RCD

I've bought a rcd/mcb for a 8.5kw shower I've fitted, it says it is a c/w 2 pole, 63amp, 30mA rcd and 1x40amp mcb. What does the c/w mean and does the 63amp mean it will only take 63amps? All replies greatly appreciated.

    Shower

Yeah that's what I'd worked out as well. I'm just gonna have to pull the main incoming fuse so I can fit the new rcd, until then you're right I can't use the shower.

    Main incoming fuse

i was going to put the tails into a shower unit rcd protected, which is a c/w 2 pole, 63 amp, 30mA rcd and a 40amp mcb type b. I'm not sure what the c/w stands for? Just out of curiousty, how much did uu charge for doing this? Thanks for the info.

    Main incoming fuse

I don't suppose you know how much the honest route would cost as due to the reccession things are a bit tight at the moment!!

And of course it could save my life as well, well pointed out.

    Main incoming fuse

That seems a very good idea, I think I'll give that a shot, but I'll have to cut the seal on the main incoming fuse just in case he won't do it and I need to kill the incoming juice so I can fit a new rcd and mcb as a new shower supply, because i can't use my new shower that I've just fitted...

    Main incoming fuse

Is the main incoming fuse wire then, I thought it would be a cartridge. As I've never seen the main incoming fuse I'm a bit unsure.

    Shower

I had a 7kw shower and I've upgraded it to a 8.5kw shower. I've changed the wiring from 6mm to 10mm, the old shower unit had a seperate supply from the cu with a 30A fuse. My new shower is 40A but I can't use it at the moment as I've bought a RCD with a 40mcb, but I can't isolate the tails from...

    Main incoming fuse

Thanks for the speedy responce steve. I didn't know that a 60amp fuse could take such a lot of extra ampage.

    Main incoming fuse

My electricity supplier is scottish power, I contacted them to ask for an isolator to be fitted after the meter so I could isolate my consumer unit from the main incoming supply so that I can update my cu from rewirable fuses to mcb's. They were very unhelpful and passed the buck to united...
