What is "head" and what isn't "head"

Excellent on Google though. Do you test your GP when you visit him  If I had cause to I would... Never accept anything you are told, or read, as gospel... Get a second opinion. From the positive feedback I have got on here it proves the advice I got from the plumber was wrong.... and...

What is "head" and what isn't "head"

No, Darcy-Weisbach equation is pressure!! You're getting the two mixed up fella!! That's why I would never make a plumber.. ! :)

What is "head" and what isn't "head"

This is another occasion where he should have known how to apply the Darcy-Weisbach equation. This guy seems to know what he is talking about:- http://www.johnhearfield.com/Water/Water_in_pipes2.htm

What is "head" and what isn't "head"

Interesting.... Would it work if the cold feed was 22mm and the vent say 8mm Have you any thoughts of a way around it Jeff. Is it possible/acceptable to put a non return valve on the vent pipe?

What is "head" and what isn't "head"

I'm sure they do apply but you are quite right, you DO need the experience too. However, when the system you install DOESN'T work, even after 35 years experience, you need to know the theory behind it all too. Again, I don't profess to know but I'm learning rapidly after my experiences with...

Haha... funny as.... Has he opened an office in Hartlepool by any chance? I wont even start to mention Reynolds numbers!! Or the Colebrooke or the Haaland equations.... or in the UK the Hazen-Williams equation I believe. I know of them... I don't know how to apply them tho.

What is "head" and what isn't "head"

I start to worry when they hesitate and either scratch their heads or hold their chins and say questioningly "The bigger one?"

What is "head" and what isn't "head"

My standard "grannys socks" question for plumbers when they come through the door is "If I run a 28mm pipe from the tank in the loft and put a nozzle on the end aka a tap, and an 8mm pipe from the tank in the loft to the another nozzle.... which will spray the water the furthest... or put...

What is "head" and what isn't "head"

I won't rise to your cheek about homework... That is my thought exactly... so why do several "plumbers" say "Ooh no,... don't put your hot tank right up under the cold water feed, there will be no head to feed the hot tank" Maybe these "plumbers" need to go back to school and do some...

Expansion vessel in Gravity feed system-Advice needed please

Why does he think it will? What are his reasons? The size of tank will not affect the pressure in the system unless the water level is increased, then you may as well just lift the small tank higher. It is a common misconception the bigger the loft tank the greater the pressure in the system...

What is "head" and what isn't "head"

On the attached PDF file, which system will work best and why? Or will they both work the same.... and why? When I say "best" I mean flow at hot tap and pressure at hot tap in each system. No wise cracks about lack of feed to the cold tank, no overflow etc.... it is diagrammatic.. :)...

    Reverse convection flow in wood-burner

Did you ever get the issue of the reverse thermo syphoning on the wood stove sorted? We had (have) exactly the same on our Fireview 20kw / thermal store / oil boiler setup. After over 2 years the plumber couldn't sort it (amongst a list of other problems that he caused / couldn't sort) and...

Emptying the ashes, whats best way?

Better still as it seems like a waste of heat energy just to chuck it in the bin, like the way you're thinking. :)
