    Garden gate- post size

Hi, i am about to put up a 2.4m bay of 6ft closeboard fencing, followed by a 3'x6' wooden gate. does anyone know if 4"x4" 2.7m wooden fence post is strong enough to support the gate from which it will hang? i am planning on fixing the gate in between 2 wooden posts, each set in concrete. thanks

Closeboard problem -loose arris rail in morticed wooden post

think might use your method next time. sounds easier if you dont have to mix in the water before the concrete is shovelled into the hole. do you only add water at the end of the day (if so, how much?). thanks

Closeboard problem -loose arris rail in morticed wooden post

thanks Thermo for clarifying this. the method i followed for my first post was to mix a semi dry mix (ie bit of water/aggregate/cement) but i'd read somewhere to soak the mix last thing in the day so i added about a litre or two at the end of the first day. is this ok or does this extra...

    concreting fence post question

Hi JohnD, the concrete is finished at around ground level. i can move the post a little when i hold on to the top of the post, but this might be normal for a 6ft post i made the concrete in about 16 batches using the method of measuring i mentioned. so some of the concrete might have had the...
