explaining the purpose of neutral wire?

ok but if the voltage on the conductor is 240v isn't the driver 0v so that would be a PD? probably seems silly to u but im trying to understand it totally :D and by saying surge i was meaning when a short circuit occurs and trips the mcb say,the current has increased to do this yeah?this is...

explaining the purpose of neutral wire?

another simple question? here goes.....say if i touched a phase with a screwdriver its going to blow right even tho the driver is insulated, isn't it in theory just like adding more cable to the circuit?well at least if it was a copper driver :D sorry if this seems stupid again but been...

explaining the purpose of neutral wire?

yeah seems to have gotten a bit heated over what was such a 'simple' question, doesn't seem that way now. and i dont think it is too basic, maybe the way i worded it made it look like i didnt know how a circuit works,i do but didnt totally understand why there was 0v at neutral end thats...

wiring lights with1 circuit but 2 switches?

clearly not a fault of mine :D and as the jobs i work on are mainly schools and general large commercial projects i dont get experience of all different systems. the lights we use are mainly prewired 3 or 4 core flexes which just plug straight into back of the light and an lcm, this is the...

explaining the purpose of neutral wire?

wow thanks for all the information, much appreciated and helped clear it up somewhat :D so when the current has been used by the load and returns through the neutral wire, finally being connected to earth back at substation,it is for want of a better word dissipated into the ground?it still has...

i do understand how a circuit works, but this doesn't explain what i was meaning,my main query is how neutral can be termed 0v but still has say 230v running through it?

explaining the purpose of neutral wire?

just a general question here,i am an adult trainee in my 2nd year and after asking a few trademen in my workplace this question i couldn't get an answer i understood, most of the answers were 'it just works like that so accept it' :D there seems to be a lot of knowledgable people on here so...

wiring lights with1 circuit but 2 switches?

yes under supervision :D was just curious of how it was done as hadn't done lighting circuits in 3 core and and earth before, only singles. ok now though been shown how to do it,i was mainly looking to find out where wires would go,i.e going straight into switch with 3 core but putting neutral...

wiring lights with1 circuit but 2 switches?

they are large flourescent ones, about 1500mm in length, its for a project im doing at work, meant to say 2 of them in one room and another in the other room are emergency to be non-maintained,would i have to use 4 core for this or wcould i just link from the live?

wiring lights with1 circuit but 2 switches?

ok thanks,so i would go straight into 1st light, loop in all the way to last light(connecting lights in both rooms together?)then run from 1 light in each room to corresponding switch in normal 1 way wiring?
