    Lockshield (compression) olive question

In the end I returned the Pegler and got a couple of Altecnic Eclipse lockshield valves. I now know that could have knocked the olive into place, but the olive wasn't square to begin with - so, not being a pro, I went for an easier option!

    Lockshield (compression) olive question

    Thanks - that's great. (As I said - a silly question.)

    Lockshield (compression) olive question

Silly question coming up: On a compression type lockshield valve there is, of course, an olive on the tail that screws into the radiator. Should this olive be fixed in position or should it be moveable? I ask because I bought a Pegler Terrier Lockshield valve to replace an old seeping valve...

    A whole new Alarm System

I had posted some suggestions here but now I see that you have previously tried to solve the problem on the AVForums as well as in an earlier thread here. At this stage I really think you should call in a professional. He would probably be able to sort it out fairly quickly. Otherwise you are...

    A whole new Alarm System

I am only an amateur so it seems foolhardy for me to comment but it would be a pity to dump a control panel and bell box without first identifying exactly what is wrong (especially as the Accenta G4 is the current model). First option would be to get in a professional - it might be a quick...

Expected life of modern Control Panels/Ext Bell Boxes

My last control panel (a Bentley Symphony) behaved perfectly for over 20 years. The technology has obvious moved on tremendously since that panel was made but I wondered what the likely life a modern CPs and Bell Boxes is (e.g. Texecom, Honeywell, Scantronic). Any thoughts?

Replacement CP, External Sounder, etc ???

Thanks for your help. I'll order the Premier 24 and Odyssey 3E, etc, etc tomorrow. And thanks for knocking some sense into me about just doing the resistors instead of getting an expansion board. I've read worrying tales about SMS over PSTN. I'm sure the Com2400 is fine but I hear that...

Replacement CP, External Sounder, etc ???

My 20+ year control panel has died so I need to replace it and the rpk. It’s also time the bell box was updated too. My first thought was the Honeywell Accenta Gen 4 (the larger case version) with a Reson8 siren but then I started doing research here and elsewhere and noticed that Texecom was...

    Combi Shower advice required

I think the Mira mentioned by ChrisR is the 415. Bear in mind that the shower has to have a minimum flow of HW to keep the Combi firing - so if the showerhead is either badly scaled up or not allowing enough water through, that would also cause the problem.

    gas burner pressure

Many years ago, when I had a combi fitted, the Mira 88 worked, but not really very well. So I swapped it for a Mira 415 which is specifically designed for use with combi boilers and the like. If I remember correctly, as the pressure dropped on one feed (say the cold) the valve would reduce the...

Lynx cutting out on HW - please help!

kev, Thanks enormously for the help Would it be fair to say that the best thing to do is see if descaling works works? If that fixes the problem - fine. But if the heat exchanger is weakened and plays up, then, as the cost of replacement heat exchangers is quite steep, it might be worth...

Lynx cutting out on HW - please help!

kev, Many thanks for the diagnosis. Do you mean it's the heat exchanger that is scaled up (something I had wondered about myself)? Afraid I'm in Bristol - bit of a hike from the NE! Is there a way of cleaning out the heat exchanger (once removed from the boiler), say dunking in...

Lynx cutting out on HW - please help!

kev, Yes it is a hard water area. The CW supply is fed via a brass 'bottle' containing the treatment 'balls' (Siliphos), although I know they haven't been replaced as often as they should have been.

Lynx cutting out on HW - please help!

I checked the temperatures of the CH flow and return within the boiler (flow: combustion chamber to diverter valve, return: diverter valve to combustion chamber) - The temperatures when the boiler cut out were: Flow ~102C, Return ~92C. The flow outside the boiler got a little warm over...

Lynx cutting out on HW - please help!

Hoping some one can help me with this: I've a Lynx Electronic which now cuts out when drawing hot water, say for the bath, for more than approx 4 minutes. This does not happen when HW is being drawn for the shower, and the CH appears to be working normally. It seems that it is the CH...
