    flooding garden - help

The first thing to do is find out if you have a high water-table, in other words is the site on a hill or in a valley. If it's the latter the only real solution will be to raise the level of the garden providing you don't end up flooding the house. The ground level should be 150mm beneath the...

    Vauxhall Cavalier 1600

My son has an L reg 1600 Cavalier. It is petrol and has the single point Multec injector system. A few months ago it developed a fault. The problem nearly always occurs when the engine is hot. When pulling away from stationary the engine dies for a second, loosing power after which it picks up...

Toyota Previa Rear Suspension Ball Joints

My Toyota Previa has just failed the MOT on worn upper ball joints on the rear suspension. Previas seem to be scarce in scrap yards but one breaker has quoted me £90 each. Does this sound reasonable? Does anybody know of supplier where I can buy new/recon ones for around this price? Also...

    Safety Issue with Downlighters !!!!

Not sure if this topic is still live but here's a tale worth remembering. I am a retired firefighter and a couple of years ago attended a house fire where the roof and part of the first floor waas lost. The seat of the fire was traced back to charring of a roof joist immediately above a...

A heavy gas bill (hot water problems??)

Thanks ChrisR and Pugwash. It sounds like I need to start with the gas pressure and take it from there. The Megaflo was new with the house 4 years ago. I have been told the Megaflo is a good system. Is that the case? Regards

A heavy gas bill (hot water problems??)

Hi doitall, the manual seems to suggest the system is 3-3.5 bar. I wonder if we are getting to the route of the problem. Sometimes when I turn on the kitchen mixer tap it takes a second or two for water to come out, as if it has drained back a bit. Water is definitely not right at the washer...

A heavy gas bill (hot water problems??)

Thanks for that Chris R. I will have a look at some of those things. Re the shower, you only need to turn it on a little to get washed away. Turn it on even less and it is totally cold. I need to get the gas pressure checked out as suggested by a previous reply. To give you an idea of the...

A heavy gas bill (hot water problems??)

Can anybody help me with this one? I have moved into a 4 year old house and am getting £60-£70 a month gas bills which is more than the entire quarterly bill for our last house. We are away more than we are here and in theory the gas bill should be lower because we now have an electric oven...

    Tomatoes

I usually grow about 40 plants each year in the geenhouse and on the allotment I always pick them when they are getting light green and put them in a bowl in the dark where they ripen by themselves after a week or two. That method seems to feed the whole street.

    Noisy Glow Worm Ultimate Boiler

Thanks for all those useful comments. Point taken about washing up liquid!! Gas2Air asks about the noise. It is definitely in the boiler and seems to coincide with the burner being on for a while and the water getting hot. It goes away for short periods but returns when the burner re-ignites...

    Noisy Glow Worm Ultimate Boiler

I have a Glow Worm Ultimate boiler about 8 years old on an older system. About a year ago it started banging, I guess it has sludge in it. I put in a Fernox cleaner and left it about a week then drained, flushed and refilled. The banging reduced but has now returned. A building control friend...
