Fixing Wood to Brick - Totally Stalled

Hi, This is a bit of a long post, but I wanted to highlight my problem clearly to facilitate accurate replies. Thanks in advance for any advice you may be able to give. The actual questions are in red at the bottom for ease of reference. I am trying to attach a long vertical wooden...

    Painting over sealed Artex

I've had endless problems painting over new artex with the paint drying too fast and forming a thin film over the artex which then started to peel. I've tried the common recommendation of applying watered down mist coats before thicker top coats but have still had problems. After lots of...

    Slanted Floor Quick Fix

My bathroom is very small – just 200cm by 140cm. The problem is, the floor slants down 5cm from one side to the other, along the 140cm side. This image shows the slant: http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/1148/bathroomad.jpg There is no way I can get under there to repair the joists...

Paint Opacity on thirsty Plaster or Artex

So I can use e.g. Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt directly onto new artex with no problems as long as the first 1 or 2 coats are watered down? There's no problem using a high vinyl-content paint on new artex?

Paint Opacity on thirsty Plaster or Artex

Thanks for the replies. So I've read many times advice to use Supermatt on new plaster or artex, because the low vinyl means it won't form as much of a film that can peel off ... but what I'm saying is, surely if the plaster/artex were to be sealed beforehand using an oil/shellac based paint...

Painting a Gas Fire Cover White

I have a Valor Gas Fire with a detachable black surround. The surround is metal and seems to be powder coated or epoxy or some kind of ultr-permanent baked-in black finish. Now that the room has been redecorated, I don't like the black colour but can't afford a new fire at present, so I...

    Gloss Finish on Laminate Flooring

I couldn't decide whether this should do in "Decorating and Painting" or "Flooring" and didn't want to double-post it, so I've chosen this one... I have very pale maple laminate flooring (like cream colour in places) at home with a smooth satin finish. I would like a gloss finish on the...

Paint - Cutting In on Window Glass

Thanks all I'll do it in better weather as the window sweating is too bad right now. I'll make sure the window is clean, do the meths thing and make sure I leave it for decent time before cleaning the window. Cheers.

Paint Opacity on thirsty Plaster or Artex

I was having artex peeling problems in this thread: //www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1455012#1455012 I'm now on to the issue not of peeling, but of making a topcoat actually show up as white ... and this seemed like a different topic that may affect a lot of people painting...

    Artex Peels: Relentless

Honestly, I didn't measure it specifically ... (ashamed as I type) but just watered it down until it became runny. The B&Q paint is quite thin to begin with. You're probably right. I think the paint was bad quality too.

    Artex Peels: Relentless

@ Big Tone I have no idea if this will work well or not, but I remember reading about this product somewhere (could be what you're looking for?): http://www.strip-paint.com/xtex.html @ All I tried to build up that hole (see photo in first post) but it still shows the border around it...

Paint - Cutting In on Window Glass

I didn't know I had to let the BIN "cure" for 8 days. The tin says repaintable in 45 minutes. I repainted later the same day or the next day. But, perhaps the condensation issue is a factor. The weather was very cold and I do get condensation on that window. Is there anything I can do to...

Paint - Cutting In on Window Glass

My painting was performed inside, not outside. I have painted the inner side of the window pane.
