There are a great many threads here on the Baxi with replies and advice. Indeed I've posted here before on boiler issues and received assistance. I've no intention of messing with the gas side of things, merely asking if this issue is likely to be PCB related. If it is then I'll source a new PCB.

Indeed, fair play to the Baxi, not the guilty party on this occasion. I have however now got a replacement PCB which I'll fit as a precaution.

As a follow up I decided it was time to call an expert in. Quickly diagnosed a blockage in the system and a failing pump. There was an almost complete blockage just above the pump requiring a short section of pipe to be replaced. Also the three way valve was corroded and the vent was similarly...

That definitely is not happening here. Boiler starts up, runs for a minute or so accompanied by increasing clanking from the feed or outlet pipes at the top and then shuts down. Overhead light does not illuminate.

Yup, that's what I did last time this needed replacing, much easier!

Yes, boiler was lit and heating turned on but shaft not moving and pipework got very hot in the minute or so before it shut off again. I could turn the shaft manually without any effort.

If only it was that easy :). I replaced this one 15 years back and I could not get the connections undone no matter what I tried. Both nuts were rusted tight and thanks to the difficult access I just couldn't get enough purchase on them to free them up. That time I gave up and swapped the pump...

Ok, started boiler up from cold, water coming out of shaft but not turning, only the Feint hun from motor. Does that point to a new pump being required? House is 20 years old and the original pump died about 5yrs in so this one has been in service around 15years now.

Thank you, pump shaft seems to turn fairly freely, waiting for system cool down before I can get it to fire up and see if the pump motor runs.

This morning I'm sure the pump was working, I checked and could hear it running. But I've just checked now and apart from a very feint hum I can't hear it operating. The flow pipe from the boiler does heat up in the short time it runs before all the banging and clanking begins and it shuts down...

Thanks for replying, from cold when I switch power on the relays rapid buzz for a few seconds and then it will fire up as normal, fan will start, pilot light etc. But powers off shortly after and then I have only Boiler ON light, nothing else and cycling power makes no difference unless I leave...

Noticed the hot water cylinder making a boiling sound this evening. Only way to stop it was to turn off the wall mounted switch that has a wire connected to the top of the cylinder. If this is an immersion heater then is this a supplement to the gas boiler? Confused!! Apologies for my...

Thanks for your help Andy, stripped old one which had a green restrictor in with a larger hole. Have now swapped that into new ball valve and all seems OK.

Thanks, but I'm curious as to what the difference is and if I'm safe to leave the new low pressure valve that I've just fitted in place? It's identical to that screwfix item apart from being a low pressure version.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure this is fed from the mains. So does that mean I need to go and get the high pressure version? It all seems to work fine and I can't see any difference in the valves between the old and the new.
