I need to cut a tile round this beast

Hello everybody, I'm trying to tile round a shower fitting, and want to know the bext way to go about it. It works out that I use a whole tile but I've got to cut a fair bit out of it, which is proving a nightmare. Shall I split a tile in two and try and mask the join? Any suggestions...
