    I am decorating the room where my CH boiler is located and have noticed a cable fastened to the hot water pipe. I think it is the earth wire from the boiler as the other end is fastened to the gas meter. The cable is clipped tight against the pipe and the pipe does get very hot. Is this safe or...

    Cracked glaze on pipe

    It is the pipe running through the manhole, just near the house carrying kitchen and bathroom waste water. It is an open top pipe not a closed pipe with a crack in the top. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

    Cracked glaze on pipe

    Sorry if this is a completely stupid question. I have noticed a crack in the glaze of an underground pipe. It is not deep (only surface really) but about 3mm wide. The pipe is about 40 years old. Does it matter? If so, can I repair it to stop it getting worse? Any advice gratefully received...
