Damaged woodgrain effect foil on UPVC window frame.

I have some south-facing UPVC window frames which have a rosewood woodgrain finish. During the heat of the summer, on two of them the woodgrain foil has bubbled and split on the bottom rail of the frame. Is it possible to obtain this foil for a DIY repair. I reckon I can cut away the damaged...

Vaillant Sine 18 - not quite right.

Thanks Gasguru. Yes I found the label and the manufacturing date is 1982. That means it must be the original boiler as this house was built in 1983/4. So the boiler is 37 years old and has been in use for 35 years. Sure, various bits have been replaced over the years but that is not bad going...

Vaillant Sine 18 - not quite right.

The 831Bunny, you were spot-on . It was due to the capacitor. You certainly know your way around these Vaillant boilers. Hopefully this thread will be of use to others. Many, many thanks for all your help and advice. Mike

Vaillant Sine 18 - not quite right.

Thanks to The831Bunny for the useful guidance. Your first suggestion seems to be favourite: the pump capacitor (or maybe the pump itself?). I think the other suggestions are less likely because the PD valve is brand new, the heat exchanger was replaced about six years ago and the venturi setup...

Vaillant Sine 18 - not quite right.

I have a further question concerning my Vaillant VCW Sine 18. Should the differential pressure valve diaphragm pin remain energised (i.e. pushing open the gas valve) all the time that the pump is running? I assume that it should but would appreciate confirmation. Thanks Mike

Vaillant Sine 18 - not quite right.

Thanks for that. I have checked continuity from the terminals on S1 and S2 (and earth) through to the back of the multiplug with the aid of a paperclip poked into the back of each cell of the multiplug and all are good. I have also checked continuity and function of the solenoid microswitch...

Vaillant Sine 18 - not quite right.

I checked the continuity of the microswitch S2 and it seemed ok however, to be certain, I replaced it with a spare that was definitely ok. But still no change to the boiler's behaviour. It still fires in bursts, does not exceed 60C and the thermostat knob has no effect whatsoever. It surely...

Vaillant Sine 18 - not quite right.

Much appreciated. That page is gold dust. I'll clean and check the switch tomorrow. Many thanks. Mike

Vaillant Sine 18 - not quite right.

Thanks for the reply. I bent the plate up a bit but it has made no difference; still the 15 secs on - 30 secs off firing cycle and does not exceed ≈ 60C. Read more: https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/vaillant-sine-18-not-quite-right.515581/#ixzz5cEIbo8Z9

Vaillant Sine 18 - not quite right.

Thanks to “The831Bunny” for the expert advice. Report back:- With the hot tap RUNNING and the electric to the boiler OFF, I checked the clearance on the RIGHT hand microswitch (above the Flow Switch). There was no clearance - the switchplate was pressing down hard against the microswitch body...

Vaillant Sine 18 - not quite right.

Happy New Year to all. I need advice re: my Vaillant Sine 18. Hopefully there are still some of the old Bunny brigade reading this forum. Yes, the boiler is donkeys’ years old but it has served me well and I appreciate its superb engineering. Having said that, I will be replacing it in the...

    Vaillant VCW-sine 18 T3 W Pilot light

Pilot has been cleaned, pilot injector and thermocouple replaced. Everything worked fine for a while and I thought the problem was solved. Now the pilot has started randomly blowing out again and when it does it is always when the main burner shuts down. I may be wrong but it seems to be...

Loft ventilation in roof with no eaves

Hello, I live in a bungalow that has what I believe is called a "cottage" roof design. It is about 30 years old. In this type of roof there are no eaves (no soffits/fascia boards). The roof has a substantial overhang and the ends of the roof trusses are exposed. The wall extends right up to the...

    Vaillant VCW-sine 18 T3 W Pilot light

No, these are the rolls royce of gas boilers - completely different league to the modern rubbish and almost as thermally efficient too. Probably another 25 years left in it.

    Vaillant VCW-sine 18 T3 W Pilot light

Hi, I have an old Vaillant VCW-sine 18 T3 W (LPG) which seems to be generally still in fairly good condition. It has conked out a couple of times in recent years and has been repaired by a local LPG engineer with a few parts being replaced including the switch PCB, electronic PCB and flow...

    Switch from LPG to Oil?

I have an old gas combi boiler (Vaillant) that runs on LPG. It has had a good innings but must be nearing the end of its life now at 27 years old. There is no mains gas supply here and I am not a great fan of LPG. My wife worries about a tank full of gas in the garden and I worry about the...

Hot water problem - old Vaillant boiler.

Success! I have adjusted the flow at the isolation valve and this seems to have cured the problem. The DHW is now at a decent temperature and taking a shower has been transformed! My wife is delighted. Many thanks for the advice. You were right about having to turn it almost all the way in. I...

Hot water problem - old Vaillant boiler.

Many thanks Bunny and Tony for your advice. I have checked the water flow rate and it is taking approx 1 minute to fill a 10 litre bucket so it looks as though it is flowing to fast. I will adjust it and see. By the way, the white knob is still intact! For the moment at least. I looked...

Hot water problem - old Vaillant boiler.

Many thanks for the replies. I shall do some more checking as suggested. The thing that really puzzles me is that the gas is roaring away, the CH flow pipe is not heating up but the DHW is barely hot either so where is all the heat going other than out of the flue? Cheers Mike

Hot water problem - old Vaillant boiler.

Hi Tony, Thanks for the reply. The diaphragm-operated switch you mention – is that what Vaillant refer to as the water section valve? If it is then this appears to be working OK. When the hot tap is turned on the boiler fires up so I assume the diaphragm is operating the microswitch...
