    BS7671 Help

Like I said, "I am planning a project". There is a concept idea which has some open questions relating to feasibility which need answering before a plan can be finalised or any detail designing can take place. I came to this forum, because I have had good input from knowledgeable people on...

    BS7671 Help

Ban-all-sheds - There is no need to be alarmed. I bet that there are companies out there that do as you suggest, but in this situation that is far from accurate. Any designer worth his salt knows that if he has a question that needs answering he should use all of the resources available to...

    BS7671 Help

What the response confirms is that the IET haven't understood the question that I put to them! The project isn't actually an installation one yet - it is the development of a new product. I wish I could give full details of it here on the forum, but at the moment I am not allowed to because...

    BS7671 Help

Hi All I am not an electrician by any means, but I am planning a project which needs some special wiring. I contacted the IET, technical helpdesk, and I got this reply..... "The information that you may find useful is covered in BS 7671:2008(2011), appendix 7, item 4 page 408." My...

Quaestion on how to control a contactor.

Back to the original question - Would a conventional light switch be ok to control the contactor?

Quaestion on how to control a contactor.

Good point. Personally, I would be interested in making my equipment last, so wouldn't use the single switch as a method of turning everything off in a hurry. The logic behind it is that Amps have pretty high standby loads, so once everything was turned off normally via the remote, it...

Quaestion on how to control a contactor.

I am looking into the idea of a cinema room and I want to be able to turn off all of the devices in one go. I want to be able to turn them off properly, rather than leave them all on standby, but I also want everything racked nicely and hidden away with tidy wiring. It has been suggested...

    Lights in 'Fire Ceiling'.

Correct, but I want a luxury workshop for working on my cars and bikes. If you want to make comparisons to rooms that it is not, then I would say that it is going to be like a sinkless kitchen with a really big sectional up and over door ! But then again, it is a garage, not a kitchen, so...

    Lights in 'Fire Ceiling'.

I have see down lights with intumescent seal rings, but I don't want those. I am interested in how to seal the hole where the cables poke through for a ceiling rose of a fluorescent strip. There are cable collars available for about £10, and there are conventional fire hoods designed for...

    Lights in 'Fire Ceiling'.

Hi Knowledgeable ones. What are the regulations associated with penetrating a fire ceiling for lighting cables? I have got an integral garage, below a bedroom, and I want to put in a pendant light and 2 flourescent strips as garage lighting. The garage ceiling is yet to go in, but when...

New door opening close to corner - How close can I go?

Thanks guys. I will speak to the BCO about it, and will go for the simplest option that he is happy with. Loading from above is minimal because this is the first floor and so above it is the eaves section of the original gable wall, and ceiling joists run parallel to the wall.

New door opening close to corner - How close can I go?

Guys I am after some advice with regard to cutting a new opening in a wall close to a corner. My extension comes straight out from the original gable end of my house, and I need to cut a doorway through that original gable wall, which is of brick/cavity/brick construction. The new wall...

Installing a new aerial - how do I position it ?

Due to my house extension, I have had to take down my old TV aerial, and so am taking the opportunity to upgrade it from the ‘Contractor’ job that has been up there for the last 45 years. I have got a new aerial, pole and chimney lashing kit, and I am just after some tips on how to get it...
