    No, the only one I've found is about 9-10 inches above the boiler itself looks like a hex bolt with a hole in the middle, should one be fitted to the flow near the pump?

    Thanks for the advice, worst thing is I know a heating engineer but keeps telling me he's too busy etc and I'm a bit weary of who else to trust! is sentinal x400? ok to try it says it's non acidic, is that better/gentler on the system?

    there is a stubby valve with a cover looks like you need an oversized rad bleed key to turn it its in like a link pipe between the flow and return, it's fully closed by the look of it, is that what you meant?, Cheers, Shane.

    Thanks, the system seems quite noisy, I don't expect it to be silent at 20 years old but there seems to be a lot of like running water or air noise coming from the pipework in the airing cupboard around the pump and 3 way valve although when bled there is no air in rads or pump etc, any ideas?

    Hey Big Thanks for the swift replies, I am right in thinking then it is a normal fully pumped system, as opposed to primatic, the cylinder is indirect

    Whoops, should have mentioned house is 20 years old so system is around the same age, there is 2 cold water tanks in loft as well as small tank and pipework is all 15mm or 22mm.

    It's an old Thorn Apollo boiler, myson pump and 3 way diverter valve with a small tank in the loft. I think it's called a fully pumped 2 pipe system.

    Hello All, While doing some work in my loft I noticed the 22mm pipe from the main flow of the boiler is plumbed into the bottom of the feed and expansion tank and the 15mm f/e pipe is just capped off, is this the wrong way round and what effect will this have on the system?

    Thorn Apollo boiler problem

    Hello, The boiler was running ok until recently when every now and then while running hw/ch it will cut the pump out for a few seconds and then start again, sometimes this causes the boiler to bang, I've been told it's the pump overrun stat, any more idea's/opinions? Any help is greatly...
